This classic Italian-American sandwich features savory Italian sausages, sweet bell peppers, and caramelized onions, all piled high on crusty Italian rolls. It's a delicious and satisfying meal perfect for lunch or dinner.
Ingredients: 4 Italian sausages. 2 tablespoons olive oil. 2 red bell peppers, sliced. 2 yellow bell peppers, sliced. 2 onions, thinly sliced. Salt and pepper, to taste. 4 crusty Italian rolls, split.
Instructions: Fry the sausages in a big pan over medium-low heat for about 10 minutes, or until they are browned and fully cooked. Take the sausages out of the pan and set them aside. Put olive oil in the same pan and heat it over medium-high heat. Slice the onions and peppers and add them to the pan. Add salt and pepper, and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, until the vegetables are soft. Cut the sausages into small pieces while the vegetables are cooking. Put the sliced sausages back in the pan when the peppers and onions are soft. Add two to three more minutes of cooking to heat everything through. For the split Italian rolls, toast them. Put some of the sausage, peppers, and onions on each of the toasted rolls. Enjoy while hot!
