“WELCOME TO NEWTOWN”
by Peque VRS
Just a few short miles southwest of downtown, King Street, sometimes referred to as “Eat Street,” leads away from Sydney University, bisecting one of the city’s most culturally diverse neighborhoods, Newtown, and serving as the spine for Sydney, Australia’s thriving street art scene. And just a few steps to the west of King Street, at King Lane and Dickson Street, Peque has painted what appears to be an autobiographical account of his arrival in the city from his native Mexico. Peque is a member of the VRS crew and a prolific fine artist, muralist, graffiti artist, and designer—his technique refined in the outskirts of Guadalajara he is now adding to the cultural diversity of his adopted home with work he often describes as “cholo style.” @peque_vrs
