Percy's likely a _good_ man--but one deeply fractured by his early life, essentially alone, and obviously very much in _need_ of love, if not entirely deserving of it (whether in his own eyes, or John's).

I'm very curious how the fandom will change now that he is in the show. I personally don't ship it. I'm John/Steven myself. However I don't judge so don't worry!
From what I have seen from other fandoms, a niche character or pairing previously known mostly to a few hardcore shippers or people otherwise attracted to them, once broadcasted in a wide-spreading form (movie, TV) can become an overnight sensation and inspire large crowds of new fans... or not... So we’ll see I guess!
I guess my take on shipping this as so many other pairings I personally like is not so much about anticipating them to truly end up together, but rather the emotions and the relationship even (or sometimes, especially) in its doomed format. Richness and nuances of complicated feelings - that is my jam, not necessarily happily ever after...
And yes, John/happiness is my OTP too, and if Stephan (or Percy?) can provide that, I’d be happy!

So in what direction might loving Percy again swing him? We don't know, and neither does John. He left Percy in honor--saved his life and saw him safe--he took care of him--and that left him with the knowledge that he'd acted decently, and that in turn let him remember Percy with bittersweetness, rather than bitterness, and kept him (Percy) from gnawing at John's heart.
