All About Your OC-- Breoch

Not sure who to tag for this one, so consider this an open tag to anyone who wants to answer these questions for your own OCs

OC Name: Breoch V'ysse

2. Does your OC have any nervous tics or self-soothing habits?

Breoch tries exceptionally hard to never show any signs of weakness, but his fear shows itself in lapses in control of his magic. When he's scared, his body temperature drops, frost forms across his skin, and his breath comes out in a wispy vapour. The more he draws upon his innate magic, the colder he becomes. One of his nervous tics is clenching and unclenching his fists, trying to stop his hands from going numb. If he's particularly overwhelmed, and the situation allows it, he will comfort himself by finding somewhere to physically warm himself up. The warmer he is, the more relaxed he feels.

3. Let's say your OC got kidnapped. What would save them? Breoch would first attempt to charm his way out, telling whatever pretty lie he needs to create the opportunity to escape. Failing that, he'd draw upon his magic to free himself— prioritising escape and subterfuge over direct combat. He would assume that nobody is on their way to help him; 200 years in Menzoberranzan has taught him that much.

4. If your OC has a love interest, are they opposite or rather similar? Breoch and Astarion are very similar. They're mirrors of each other. They both have that joy and optimism buried DEEP down inside them after centuries living in a system designed to grind them down. They're both manipulators. They're both ultimately powerless to make any meaningful changes to their circumstances. The biggest difference is that Astarion knows he was treated and used as nothing more than a pretty lure. His sexuality was weaponised by Cazador. Whereas Breoch has deluded himself into thinking he 'chose' to let others use him for their own pleasure. He doesn't see himself as a victim of Lolthite society. He believes any difficulties he faced was a conscious sacrifice he chose to make. Still, they understand one another in a way few others can.

5. Is there a story behind making your OCs? What inspired you? So Breoch was essentially made with two purposes in mind: 1) to look as pretty as possible 2) to be evil I'd like to think I've succeeded on the first point, but I seriously messed up the second. See, I didn't realise that 'The Dark Urge' was a separate origin character. I just thought you had to make the 'evil' choices, which I did…to start with. However, once I realised my error I chickened out of killing the tieflings. So now Breoch has this 'Lawful Evil' alignment that changes the longer he's away from Menzoberranzan. The other parts of his backstory evolved to explain why, despite being a noble, none of the drow from other noble houses know who he is (which is in reality just a quirk of the game).

5. Is there any significance behind their hair color? 

Breoch's hair colour is the complete opposite of what a typical drow's hair should be because of his dragon great-grandfather. It's an outward sign that his family do not strictly follow Menzoberranzan doctrine.

Mina's hair is a dirty blonde. She's always been a blonde, but the specific shade is supposed to be more muted and not typically considered an 'attractive' shade. It's much more mundane.

Shrike's hair colour is reminscent of blood and fire, both of which have dual-symbolism of life and death.

Zeke's purple hair is a carry over from his previous iteration. The in-universe significance is that it's the colour his father chose for him.

14. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be? 

Breoch:

He will always act however you expect him to. Everything he does is poised, calculated and conducted to endear himself to others.

Despite his insight into others' behaviours, he has no self-awareness. He never introspects or reflects on his own actions. His gaze is always focussed outwards.

Shrike:

They are frugal with their words. Why use 50 words when 5 and a sharp blade gets the message across?

They express themself through their tail. Their tail will reveal their true feelings even when their face and words give nothing away.

[For context: Breoch's father, Isthriir, married into the V'ysse house from the Telach house; much to his mother's disapproval. The V'ysse family are very loyal and loving. Isthriir's mother, Lirith'fein Telach— Breoch's grandmother— is a very ambitious matriarch.]

Story behind the picture below the cut:

So I've been thinking about young Breoch lately.

When Breoch was a child, his grandmother (father's mother) Lirith'fein Telach once invited him to stay with her for a few days. His parents were suspicious, especially as she had expressed little interest in her grandsons before. The relationship between Breoch's father, Isthriir, and his mother was strained following his marriage. Breoch's parents eventually agreed to her offer on the condition that she took both twins— hoping that it would build a closer relationship between the two families.

However, Lirith'fein was only interested in Breoch as the eldest twin and filled his head with stories of Menzoberranzan. She planned to use him as a pawn to regain favour with other houses and elevate the V'ysse's status. She could never persuade her son to leave his new family, but she could at least use her grandson (granddaughter would have been better) to forge the ties with better houses that her son had refused. She even went as far as bleaching his hair white, giving him an eyepatch to hide his blue eye, and had the scales plucked from his face– which felt the same as pulling one's fingernails out with pliars. She took him around the city and introduced him to various nobles. Breoch had received a daughter's education, so he was surprisingly adept at navigating the upper echelons of drow society.

Breoch's parents were furious when Breoch was returned to them and they saw what she'd done. They limited her contact with him after that, but the damage had been done. The seed of ambition had been sown and Breoch carried his grandmother's teachings with him for the rest of his life:

"You will never be enough for the matriarchs, which is why you must strive for perfection. They will try to destroy you. Do not hide your power— hone it. Whether out of fear or adoration, make them beg." Lirith'fein Telach

Breoch and Astarion are married, and somehow have had a child together

Mina and Lae'zel are married. Shrike and Halsin are living together, and in love. Gale and Zeke finally confessed their love and are dating.

Everybody has a crush on Karlach, but she has no idea. Shadowheart keeps flitting between crushing on Wyll and crushing on Minthara (relatable).

Still have a few more blorbos to add, so I'm sure the chaos will continue!

Funny Tomodachi Life Blorbo Update

First, Halsin broke up with Shrike, even though Shrike was very much in love with him.

Gortash moved into the island and almost immediately Orin got a crush on him. Then Gortash fell in love with Shrike at first sight 😂

I think we now know the real reason why Orin usurped Shrike as Bhaal's chosen
