plot drop 003
family is the only thing we have
When Skylar got the text, he was at the hospital with his sister. He was doing homework while she was sleeping, when he suddenly got an extremely urgent text from Forest. Of course, since it came from Forest, he’d be there ASAP but if it was anyone else, he’d just stay. Forest was his best friend though, brother even, so there was no way he would just ignore a text from that. He kissed his sister’s forehead quickly, leaving a quick note in case she woke up and then ran to the Ravine where he was one of the first people there with Forest.
Glancing at his best friend, he could tell that something was bothering him and all he wanted to know was that he’d be okay. He didn’t say anything though, just merely pat his shoulder to let him know that he was here for him. They were best friends after all, and best friends never deserted each other.
Though, when the words started to flow out of the others mouth about their objections, Skylar couldn’t help but feel extremely uneasy. Sitting around the fire, bonding, and holding hands was not his idea with the rest of the people in the Coven. He didn’t want them to know who he was or what he did. Secrets were one of Skylar’s favorite thing. His life was built on secrets, and a part of him wanted to just keep to himself. Though, his sister was on the line and since it was his sister, he knew he’d blame himself if he didn’t try at least to help his sister out. If he was the reason she died, he couldn’t imagine the guilt he’d feel constantly.
The wheels started to turn as Forest went to tell his secret, and a part of him was a bit hurt that his best friend hadn’t told him that before. The pain that was in him, that swirled inside of him while Skylar just stood to the side and watched made a slightly guilty feeling form in his chest. He knew he had to do something after to make sure his best friend was okay. That’s what mattered the most to the Edwards boy, that his best friend/brother would be okay.
As everyone went around telling their secrets, Skylar couldn’t help but feel slight sympathy. Most people thought that Skylar didn’t feel anything for anyone but himself, but in reference to other people, he mourned with them. He just didn’t show it. He found that building a wall to people’s emotions was enough to not show any vulnerability because vulnerability only meant weakness. An Edwards boy was never about weakness. In reality, he did feel emotions, he just pushed them away. They were too much for him to deal with and too much off the planned role that his father wanted him to play.
An awkward silence fell after everyone shared, and Skylar was the only one left. He knew that he should share something. His sister’s life was on the line, so with an awkward hand through his hair, he just took a deep breath.
“I don’t know if anyone is aware, but my family isn’t perfect. I know we give that impression because blah blah, mayor shit and stuff, but there is some shitty stuff that go on with my family.”
He could already think of five thousand different things that were wrong with my family. The list just went on and on.
“I have a little sister named Stella, who is actually sick right now, funny enough. Ha, but she uh, she was sexually abused by my dad for a couple years when she was younger. I didn’t know it till later, but it was.. super messed up and uh, yeah. I didn’t know what to do because I was pretty young, but like I want to tell her I’m there for her and stuff because I think that’s why she hates our family so much, but like I don’t know how. I know she doesn’t want to tell me because I’m my dad’s pet or whatever, but like I don’t know yeah.”
He exhaled deeply, and ran a hand through his hair awkwardly. “So um yeah.”
