WIP 12!Ziam for Perfect Standards (AO3)
Another one of those posts..
So, I don't really get what's wrong with being ugly. Some people HAVE to insist that EVERYBODY is beautiful in some way and that if you call yourself ugly then you are wallowing in self-pity and you're insecure and etc etc. But honestly, the fact that you have to admit that there is no such thing as an ugly person already makes an ugly person feel worse. I mean, they have EYES, and can compare. No matter how nice you are, the FIRST thing you judge when you see somebody is their looks. It doesn't matter how saintly you are or whatever. That's just what happens. I mean, it's only wrong when you act on it and rudely call the person out on it.
I mean, yes society is all about looking perfect these days, and admitting that one is ugly might just perpetuate those standards. But I don't agree with that. I think if you treat somebody the same no matter if they are ugly or beautiful is what needs to happen. You know, the ATTITUDES need to be changed, not the sudden denial that ugly people exist. If you treat ugly or beautiful people the same way, then ugly people won't feel that them being ugly is a problem. They won't be all "Well, I have to strive to be beautiful to get somebody to notice me" if people just plain and simple don't judge people based on their looks. But not judging people based on their looks doesn't mean that you just pretend that there is no such thing as ugly. It's there, but you just accept them as you would accept a beautiful person. Because as it is said so very often, it is not the outside that matters. There's nothing WRONG with an ugly person, and denying that ugly people exists suggests that there is a problem with being ugly. Anyway, no, I don't think I'm ugly. I was just reading some other blogs and it got me thinking about all of this.
