Miles’s throat felt dry & he wordlessly hung up;he had nothing more to say anyways.
It had to be a joke, right?Something made up just to hurt him —
but no, the word came from his own mentor’s mouth,& that meant it was no trickery.
His little sister had died, & once again Miles had failed.( Why not him? Why had it not taken him? )
Slumping on the armchair, he stifled a sob, her name muttered under his pained breath as the regrets piled.
