Mack hit all his bonuses this year — both Schedule A & B — and is taking home an extra $3.5M
That's crazy! (Here's Will's break-down on performance bonuses)
So to summarize from the other post, the "A" bonuses are stat-based. You get $250k for each milestone you hit up to $1 million.
Then "B" bonuses are for essentially being a top-ten player or winning one of the big awards (Hart, Conn Smythe, etc).
As a forward, if you're top-ten in the league for points, goals, assists, or points per game played, you automatically get $2.5 million (or whatever your contract allows for. Had Will been a top-ten player, he would've gotten $2.2 million)
Put another way: "A" bonuses are individual milestones and how you ranked against your team while "B" bonuses are how you ranked against the league.
So for Mack's stats this season:
B - [Top 10 in Points] 4th in the league
A - [60] 115 points
B - [Top 10 in Goals] 7th in the league (tied with 3 other players)
A - [20] 40 goals
B - [Top 10 in Assists] 6th in the league
A - [35] 70 assists
B - [Top 10 in Points/Game] 5th in the league
A - [0.73 in Points/Game] 1.4
A - [Top 6 in TOI/Game] 1st - 21:19
A - [Top 3 in +/-] 1st: +8
B - Likely not winning any of the big awards but it doesn't matter because achieving even a single "B" got him the $2.5mil
