You've probably heard a question like this before but what did you do to practice drawing? Like people? Did you do anything specific or just draw people around you or ??
Who’s practice, never heard of her.
Not gonna lie, I used to be a slacker when it came to practicing, study sheets, life drawings, etc, so I would usually skip all the ~ learning ~ process and just figure things out on the go. Which was a horrible habit, and one of the reasons why it used to take me a month or even more to finish a single piece. Not to mention that I don’t draw daily and sometimes would take gaps up to 4 months.
But eventually I had to overgrow myself, and besides doing some master studies and such from time to time, one of the methods I’ve been using is: 1. Pick a reference photo of whatever subject you want to practice on. Stare at it for a while, then close it and try to redraw it from memory as best as you can. Save it. 2. After you did that, open the reference image again, (screech in terror of how bad your drawing looks comparing to the original), set the opacity level to 60% and trace it. Don’t trace just for the sake of tracing, instead pay attention and make mental notes of how that subject is shaped, how each line connects to the other, etc. 3. After you finished, open both the freehand and the traced drawings, put them aside where you can see them, and repeat Step 1 as quickly and as many times as you can, except with your previous attempts as your reference now. If that makes sense.
Overall, it may not be as beneficial, but I have attention span problems and this method helps me to keep my focus longer.
