Before and After: What a Change!

It’s amazing the difference that can be made when renovations are done with sensitivity to the original structure, instead of just “tacking something on”.

We just looked back at the rear of our Dean Street commercial renovation before we started work on the site. This building is originally dated around 1913, but had been subject to several extensions (we use the word “extension” loosely; lean-tos and build-ins might be better description). These add-ons did nothing other than increase the size. Things weren’t straight, the quality was abysmal and there was a real issue with water infiltrating under the building. Not to mention what we found when we demolished the rear; you check it out here.

Before

Having demolished the add-ons and taken this old lady back to her original form, we could then move forward with a renovation and extension which respected the period features she had. We could stabilise what was there and build the new so that she will last at least another hundred years.
