I finally finished reading @perksofbeingawaifu‘s amazing fic, and in case you haven’t read it yet, you really really should. I laughed and cried so much during it. Levi and Eren had such distinct personalities and I was in love with both of them, and in love with their love story. I loved watching their lives draw together, watching them through their ups and downs. And omg the smoot is so hot, I cannot even with this. 

I’m gonna miss the whole gang so much Y_Y

“Hey everyone! I just remembered the curse!”

“Eren, we’re in the middle of service, which you are very late for by the way,” Dr. Jaeger said, sitting his son down.

“But I remembered the curse!”

“What curse? You’re naked! What were you even doing?”

Eren flushed and he heard several girls giggle. He covered his nakedness with his hands and then grabbed a cloth, holding it around his waist before continuing.

“I was talking to the ghost and then I remembered—“

“The ghost? Oh Eren, when are you going to let go of that silly idea? Run upstairs and get clothes on.”

“No, I have to tell you all something very important!” Eren shouted, stamping his feet and everyone knew when Eren got like that it was best to just let him get it out of his system.

“…So go on,” Armin urged when the silence stretched on.

“I forgot,” Eren said sheepishly.

He trudged back upstairs to grab his clothes when he saw the knight in the mirror.

“Did you tell them?” asked the knight.

“Tell them what?” Eren asked, pulling on his clothes.

“About the witch’s curse?” he prompted.

Eren’s mouth dropped open and he ran down the stairs again, this time pulling his pants on. Yet by the time he got there, he had already forgotten about it. It wasn’t until he was in the baths a week later that he remembered.

why i love it: I remember (—the curse? oh right! the curse!) when Shulkie started posting this fic. I remember reading the first chapter, a little nervous about a fic that literally had ‘ghost’ in the title and then downright confused as fuck as I got to the end. what? how? I was hooked immediately. normally, ghost fic is something I tend to avoid. anyway you slice it, it’s painful. as good as it is, it hurts. and Shulkie took that idea that ghost fic means hurt and angst and was like, “nah,” and wrote a fucking comedy instead. like humor is not an encompassing enough tag for how funny Shulkie’s writing is, honestly. and I love, love, love this fic because I go long enough without reading, and I literally forget the twist, and I get confounded all over again. I debated long and hard over which of Shulkie’s fics I wanted to rec first, and I thought Castle Ghost was a good one. it might not be as talked about as Busker Du, or Merfluff, or Darkstag, but maybe that’s reason enough to remind everyone that this gem of a fic exists. read it: on tumblr // on ao3 *these recs are made to celebrate a writer and their works. Zeke stares at the building. "Yoo hoo! Captain!" calls a plump woman, racing from the doorway. "We saw you coming and immediately changed the bedding!" "Wait, what's this?" Zeke asked. "Your hotel," Levi says as if it were obvious. Zeke blinks. "Oh but Captain!" the innkeeper says, wringing her hands. "I am so sorry, but with tourism to the area now that the titans are gone..." She pauses. "I'm afraid there's only one bed." (2/2)

I’m still laughing about this because firstly part 1 got eaten by tumblr. And secondly, I was trying to figure out who sent this and then suddenly @perksofbeingawaifu starts asking about anons and ADMITS TO THE CRIME. So Shulkie if you want to have another crack at part 1, please do.

Shulkie (@perksofbeingawaifu) is a writer who’s been in the fandom since 2014. Her work is focused on growth and change for the characters, and she likes to include honest conversations and humor in her stories. Shulkie’s answer about the work she’s most proud of is really touching, and she’s got loads of exciting projects in the works. How long have you been in the fandom for?

2014

Why did you start shipping Ereri? 

I actually shipped eruri at first and then found ereri fics and went...wait I can do that? I like the mentor relationship that Eren has with Levi. I have a fondness for people who put their heroes up on a pedestal and then slowly realize that they’re just human. Eren’s first interaction with Levi, where he hero worships Levi and then finding out his famed Captain is a clean freak and follows the rules just like everyone else slays me. 

Thematically speaking, what kind of content do you most enjoy making?

I like writing fics that focus on growth and change. I like writing honest conversations. I don’t like depressing content just for the sake of adding gravity or to be “serious” so I always have a bit of comedy because life is full of those bittersweet moments. I like focusing on building respect before building a romantic relationship.

What is the work you're proudest of and why?

Starboy. I fell in love with my husband at age 15, when I was young and stupid and love was easy. And then you grow up and realize it’s not like that anymore but you’re still so desperately in love. So I wrote an ode to that first love, Levi’s first love, Eren, and asked the question of can you go back to that moment? That moment when decisions seem so clear and love is simple. And also, maybe-aliens. 👽 FOR THE WHIMSY. 

What inspires you to create?

Creating things, to me, is a form of peace, it’s a form of activism. I think this way about knitting too. Instead of being a force of destruction, of negativity, why not make something? It’s the ultimate form of love to make art. So...yeah.

Also it helps with anxiety.

Is there any work you'd like to share that inspires you?

Oof so many. I’m on mobile so this is hard. Uhhhh I think there are so many amazing fic authors in the fandom, I like to read a work, assess what I like about it, what I would have done differently, and then apply it to my own fics. For example if I really like how someone focuses on creating a dreamy atmosphere I work harder to bring in that quality to my own work. If they have intricate settings, I try to remember to ground my characters. Just looking for ways to challenge yourself and get better in the presence of other works is important. Sorry if that is dodging the answer >_<

What projects are you currently working on?

The Stag in the Dark is the WIP I’m currently focusing on! I have many other fics I spend time on but I’m not posting any until they’re finished. There’s a necromancer/western/high fantasy au, a dragon au, and many more. I have too many ideas.

What are your strengths as a writer/artist?

I think my strengths are dialogue and characterization. 

What is an area in your work which you're trying to improve on?

Ducking settings. You can’t have characters just floating around in a blank space!!! Anchor them!!! Pull them into the scene! Gah.

What advice do you have for other creators?

EDIT YOUR FIC. I will know if it hasn’t been edited. 

Do you have any pets?

Yes! Two cats! Freyja and Merlin! She’s an angel, he only scream.

How do you relax?

Write or knit. Or get my nails done

Tell us about your dream day

Husbando takes me to brunch, we walk along pike place for no reason, we get flowers, a cat toy, and a new Zauberball for me.

What music are you into?

My tastes are pretty eclectic but honestly I prefer female vocalists/artists. I really like riot grrrl bands. And musicals. And 60s/70s pop or folk. Motown. It’s a mess.

What are some of your favorite tv shows?

I love comedy shows like 30 Rock or Parks and Rec. Brooklyn 99. I love RuPaul’s Drag Race, it’s one of the very few reality tv shows I watch. I prefer scripted television usually. I watched Law & Order pretty religiously. Also XFILES IS THE BEST GODDAMN SHOW OF ALL TIME!!!

What are some of your favorite films?

I love sci-fi movies! I love Interstellar, Alien, Moon, etc. I LIVE for horror! IT was legit the best horror flick I’ve seen in a damn long while. I love The Exorcist. My Dad is a huge movie buff so he would make me watch lots of classics. It was so important to him. So Casablanca, North by Northwest, Vertigo, Jaws, The Godfather, Maltese Falcon, The Philadelphia Story, You Can’t Take it With You, My Fair Lady, West Side Story, I mean...a lot of classics.

What are some of your favorite books?

Harry Potter, Sabriel, Alice Hoffman books, The Golden Bough, The Alienist, nearly anything by Agatha Christie , The Stand, The Shining
