Thoughts
Should I post my thoughts to the internet? It will hopefully preserve them, make them more eternal than if they simply stayed in a notebook or on a hard drive. But how permanent is the internet? The saying goes that everything on the internet is permanent, but for how long? What if the site that I post to is removed or taken down? There are archive sites, but those also can’t last forever. But, there is more of a chance for my thoughts to be discovered if they are out there than if I keep them forever.
Why do people care about legacy? So many people are forgotten to history and time, but people still want to leave things behind. Why do I care about what the people of the future think about the culture and society of today? I will be long dead when they are making their judgments and studying the past, and yet I still care. I want to make sure that we don’t look like a bunch of fools, yet in all likelihood I will be forgotten to time.
Legacy, infamy, 15 minutes of fame. They matter more to some than to others, but in the end they still matter. They motive people to act, and because of that they are important.
