“Perry…” That sing song voice was never good news for the boy, it often meant that he was going to land himself in detention within the foreseeable future something which was happening a lot lately. After her breakup with Ben, Tia had not really been dealing with it in the right way, instead just creating as much trouble as she could, even though Perry always took the blame. He didn’t mind though he would pretty much do anything for her, and everybody knew it.
Whenever he claimed that Tia was an innocent party in their escapades, he was met to people rolling their eyes, obviously in disbelief. There was never any proof though, and Perry could get away with stuff from his dad, whereas Tinker Bell was a bit more strict in regards to her daughters behaviour. “Is this one I can say no to?” He asked, knowing already what the answer would be. It was the same answer she always gave him.
“Of course not, you wouldn’t even want to say no anyways it’s going to be brilliant.” This was what she always came out with, but then again she was convinced that everything she did was brilliant. Everyone else on the other hand wasn’t as sure. “So, you know that it’s the big Tourney match on Sunday?” Perry raised his brows at her, wondering where she was going with it. They were both quite close to the Triton twins, and with Kai being a defender for the Fighting Knights, they were normally off limits. Mainly because their friend’s priorities were his sister and tourney, in that order, and if anyone came between either of those things then hell would break loose. “I know what you’re thinking, my mind was more focused on the after party, so don’t worry about Kai killing us or something.”
He still didn’t look fully convinced, but without realising had stood up. “And what in particular were you planning?” He questioned, looking down at his friend. Even though he was a lot taller than her, he would never bring it up, knowing that it was a sore topic for her. When they were younger she had received a lot of bullying about her height, and if anybody knew how to hold a grudge, it was Tia.
That was him saying yes in her mind, so she jumped slightly, as a squeal leaving her lips. “Okay so we are practically guaranteed to win the cup, unless we do so badly that the other team beat us by a ridiculous amount. If that happens, then Ben will win the man of the match trophy.” Perry nodded, already seeing where this was going. “So while the match is going on, we might go missing for a while, and make sure that everything is set up. While also making putting some of this dust into the cup, so when he takes a drink out of it the magic will hit him instantly.”
“And what does this magic do?” He was already roped in by this point, but still would prefer to know what he had signed himself up for.
Whatever it was, judging by the look on her face it was definitely bringing her joy. “It’s meant to bring out somebodies truest form, so what I got from that is that it will show Ben to be the beast that he truly is. It only lasts for like an hour or something but it will still be hilarious” The first (and last) time Perry had dared to ask what had actually happened between the two of them she had thrown an almighty strop, and refused to talk to anybody for a week. One day her and Ben had been spending all of their time together, and then the next they refused to even look at each other if they passed in the corridor. “Are you ready then?”
“Mmm I guess I have to be.” He retorted, even though he had to admit, he was more behind the plan than he would ever tell her. The reason why they got along so well, other than the fact their parents had practically raised them together, was that they both thrived off of chaos. And if the after party was going to be anything, it would be chaotic.
The game was in full force which meant that is was Tia and Perry’s cue to make their subtle exit. Most importantly for them, they needed not to be seen as leaving, as with their track record, people would guess that they were up to something. Quickly the made their way through the school, thinking they were clear, until they turned the corridor, stopping when they saw the figure heading their way. “Oh, aren’t you guys watching the game?”
Tia always had time for Jane, probably because of their fairy heritage, but this time she really needed to hurry, to get back before the game ended. “We were but I was feeling a bit sick so Perry said he’d take me to my room.” If she had any talent at all, lying was definitely it. “Why aren’t you watching?
Jane just sighed sympathetically, looking genuinely concerned. “I lost track of time, I’m just heading there now. But you should look after yourself Tia. You look really pale.”
“I’ll look after her Jane, don’t you worry, the guys were winning when we last checked, so it should be a good game. We are hoping to be back for the after party at least so see you then.” After their goodbyes, the duo were glad to see that they had seemingly gotten away with that one.
It didn’t stop Tia from pouting though, not impressed with Jane’s words. “I look really pale?! What’s that supposed to mean! I look perfectly fine thank you very much.” At first her friend just laughed at her, used to her taking little comments more seriously than she should, but then he looked at her properly.
All day they had been so focused on their plan that he hadn’t actually paid her any real attention. “Now that you mention it you don’t look well.” He was hesitant, but he was always honest with her even if it wasn’t fully mutual between them. “Did you have to use your magic for this?”
“It’s fine, I’m completely fine, stop worrying about me.” She knew she shouldn’t be using it, especially when she was impulsive and untrained, but that just made her want to keep on with the spells. The last time had caused her to collapse in front of the entire class, and that was after a simple hair spell. “Now let’s shut up and focus on the task in hand before we miss our opportunity.”
He knew better than to argue with her, although he didn’t have a chance to carry it on as she sprinted down the corridor, knowing it was the easiest way to shut him up.
The plan had gone perfectly, better than either of them had imagined. Both of them missed the end of the game, but had heard through word of mouth that they had won so predicted that everything was running smoothly. The party had started a while ago, but in an attempt to increase their chances of looking innocent, they had turned up late. “You’re not looking much better Tia, are you sure you want to be here?” Jane asked, being the first person they bumped into.
She didn’t have time to answer as the coach took to the stage, holding the laced trophy in his hands. “I just want to say well done to every single one of you tonight, but we all have to hold our heads up and admit who really brought it home for us.” Struggling to hide her smirk, Tia glanced towards Ben, who was still celebrating from his win. “Right near the end things started to look slightly dire, but if it wasn’t for our amazing defender, keeping the other team well away from us, we would not have won tonight. So get up here Kai!”
Perry looked towards his friend, hoping she would give him an idea of what to do. Unfortunately she was too shocked to actually give a reaction, knowing that they were both trapped. Stopping him from the ritual of drinking from the cup would just land them in detention for about a month, maybe even worse if they had found out that Tia had used magic to do this. So instead they both watched as their friend took a big swig from the trophy, before pausing as he started to figure out that something wasn’t right. “Kai?” Ben asked as he was about to walk over, but quickly anyone around them moved away as he was covered in a cloud of smoke.
At first it looked like he had gone missing, but when everything became clear, the boy was laid on the floor, his legs transformed into a mermaid tail. His sister ran over, frantically making sure he was okay, which apart from having a tail, he was. It took pretty much all Tia had inside her not to laugh at the situation, and even Perry was smirking slightly at the sight of it. A month or two later, long after he had regained his legs, Kai had questioned who the culprit was, but neither of them blabbed. It was their secret, and made them even closer than ever.
