Advice to my under 16s <3
I’ll keep this topic sweet and short (biggest lie told ever😖)
Look, I know how absolutely terrifying being in your teens can be for some of us, but, there are so many things i look back on, in which, I so desperately needed someone to tell me. And today, that’s what I’m doing!
Firstly. no, you don’t need to rely on your friends for
everything!! Trust me, I get it. Staying up all night on
the gc, being a ‘peace maker’, just to get literally no
where. It’s unfair, and also, *not your responsibility
to manage someone else’s emotions* wowww!
shocking, right? Well, you know what else is? Being by
yourself all of your high school life! There, I admitted it!
despite my raging extroverted personality, I spent my
(grade 7 and forth) completely alone! Sounds terrible,
right? WRONG. Yes, isolation is painful, but, theres also
parts of it i loved, such as, learning who I am, spending
time being *comfortable* with being alone, because it
not only fixed the part of me in which was afraid of being
left out, but, it taught me that, I will always be the one
i can 100% count on. And despite whatever small friend
groups/interactions I’ve had with people my age, i havent
felt the undying need to get their approval in the hopes
that they won’t leave me. Because, we all know that
people’s thoughts & opinions of you, still *do not* change
who you are. Can you imagine that? Youd be 100 different
people a day!! And I can assure you, there is someone out
there, who views you the way you truly feel, and think.
but what I’m saying is, girls, don’t spend your HS years
sacrificing yourself for others, because you’re scared of
ending up alone. Because, being alone is the greatest
proof that, no matter what, you *will* survive by yourself
if you need to. And you *will* learn to set boundaries more
Key things to remember <3
𝜗𝜚 - You owe no one nothing!!
Not a single thing! So yes, you can stop staying up till 4 am concerned for your friends stupid petty argument, or waiting to play therapist again. It 👏 is 👏 not 👏 your 👏 responsibility 👏 to 👏 solve 👏 other 👏 peoples 👏 emotions 👏
now, differentiate this from empathy, because yes you’re allowed to care, and to help, but not at the expense of your own happiness and well-being!! You can still be a good friend to someone, whilst simultaneously being a good friend to *yourself*.
𝜗𝜚 You are changing 24/7!
From hormones, to mentally figuring out who you are still, you won’t be the same girl you are now, in 10 months time, because it’s physically not possible! But this doesn’t mean the friends you have now will disappear, or need to, you just need to adapt, adjust, and understand that petty drama is room for forgiveness, and for yourself too!
𝜗𝜚 “productivity” & social media trends.
One word, FAKE!! I know how easy it is to fall for a social media trap, i mean, they tell you some legendary fix, and you’re glued to your phone for 3 minutes of useless time. But, especially if you’re younger, you need to remember social media isnt real, even those body positivity influencers, (looking at you Clara💔) they’re all fake, do not trust anything you see online.
Better yet, make your own decisions, and no, you don’t need a 100 step skincare routine from TikTok shop, you know what you need? Basic cleanser, maybe a spf moisturiser if you want one. People online talk about acne like it can be fixed 24/7, and I’m saying this as the kid who grew up pepperoni faced, and now has mainly clear skin. It is likely just hormones, and if you’re worried it’s not, make sure you’re eating different foods, lots of water, wash your face, and bam!
𝜗𝜚 workouts & all that BS
Some of you aren’t going to like what I have to say, but… going to the gym as a kid is so stupid (13-14) .. like, go to a sports club, join a team, because trust me, weight lifting is complicated, and if you don’t properly understand your nutrition and your shit, you could easily get injured, or just overwhelm your body on foods you don’t even need to eat..
And… thats all I’ve got! Mwah💋
