Kampong Glam
Today we impulsively bought a Persian rug!
Let me back up. The hotel we're staying at is in Little India: a neighborhood that's fascinating in its own right and that we still need to explore beyond indulging in late-night dosa. But, if you walk south for about 15 minutes, you reach Kampong Glam: Singapore's historic and highly instagrammable Muslim quarter.
Our plan for today was to explore this neighborhood, soaking up its vibrant culture, gorgeous architecture, and all-around fun bohemian vibes.
However, it didn't take long for us to reach the textile shops. I have such a weakness for Middle Eastern textiles... (and lamps, but that's a problem for another day).
The rugs were so beautiful that we decided to buy a small one as a souvenir.
The shopkeeper was very patient with us, taking the time to unroll virtually every rug in the store so we could compare them all. Here's the one we chose:
It'll fit in the suitcase somehow! Maybe I'll throw some stuff away to make room. Who needs clothes when you have a rug.
I love my rug.
