📝 – a False Hearth is an alter role that is best described as an alter who pretends to be nice and friendly towards people the system generally dislikes or have a strong feeling of resentment towards.

These alters tend to put up a facade of a “warm and caring” persona despite their strong feelings of hatred towards the person themselves, usually to keep up appearances, though this reason isn't required for alters to identify with this role !!

I know we've said before that we reclaim the ampersand as a symbol for CDDs/systems from ableists (endos), but recently we had an idea for our own! Theres an analogy we use alot to describe our personal experience with systemhood to non-systems, and we thought that it would make for a perfect symbol of our disorder as well!

The analogy is as follows: Cogs that make up a machine/system. Each cog (alter) is seperate and distinct, yet they all are part of eachother in the sense they together make up a larger body (the system as a whole). Each cog is necessary for the system to function, serves their own specific purpose (alter roles), and they all must work together to make sure the system functions. I'm pretty sure most system experiences can be fit into this analogy, such as alter fusion for example: two cogs are welded together to create one new cog that takes over the places of the previous two. The term "system" also perfectly fits into this analogy, as the term is already often associated with technology, gears/cogs and such

With all of this in mind, we thought that the imagery of gears/cogs would make for the perfect symbol for systems! We also made a new variant of our CDD/system pride flag utilizing the symbol!
