Work has been good lately, but also just ok at the same time.

On one hand, it’s going smoothly; but on the other I am feeling a bit stuck.

It all started by accidentally not showing up for a shift back in October of last year because my calendar did not sync my schedule properly into my phone. Because I didn't show up I got a written discipline on my record, and that stays on for a full year. Flash-forward to now it’s really come back to bite me, since now I can’t go out and apply for full-time status, lead, or the worst one, do the Holiday Tour this year again. I’m getting over it very slowly, but I am upset that I won’t be able to do the tour again. While I was practicing for the audition I kept remembering how much fun and how great of an experience it was and I was really excited to get to do it again this year. For the other things, like applying to be a lead I’m also annoyed, especially seeing other people who have been here for much less time getting the position, while I have to wait probably until next year to apply...

I guess this just gives me time to focus on other aspects of work. Maybe on just improving myself as a Guest Relations Cast Member and to work locations like City Hall and our Kiosks more while networking and talking to managers and current leads so that they know of my plans and intentions in the department. We’ll see what I figure out...

And the Rose, Thornless

She stood before the mirror, staring into the glass, tracing the lines of her face with her eyes and wondering at what she saw there.

It was the eleventh day, now -- almost seven since she opened the Inquisitor’s secret file.  Three since she returned from Ul’dah, having set her own affairs in order.  Her head was far clearer than it had been on the day of her departure. 

Three days since she returned to Manor Pepin. Three since she returned, quiet and fretful, to his side.

Three since she locked away the folder that was entrusted into her care.

The rose remained, however -- that dried, sweet briar rose -- resting atop the dressing table in the room prepared for her with such kindness by the Pepins.  Above it: her reflection; pale, and ruddy-eyed, and tired.

And, like the mirror, she reflected.

Perrine had been right, of course.  Perrine was right more often than that Ser herself realized, Gwenneth was sure.  The younger woman had an uncanny knack for peering past the thickest armor and, sharp as a blade, cutting to the heart of a matter.  But not unkindly, no -- never unkindly.  Gwenneth smiled to think of it; she saw as much in the mirror.

How different things would be, she thought, had Perrine not told her of that curious Squire stationed in the Sea of Clouds.  In hindsight, she felt guilty for making her dear friend regret the suggestion, but how shocked she’d been by the notion that Squire Hyacinthe could so much as be considered--!

...Well, she saw for herself, didn’t she..?  She saw it in his face; in the way he -- of all things -- happened to scowl.  From that moment on, the idea had remained locked away in the back of her mind as a possibility; begrudgingly nurtured for moons and moons with a pile of “what ifs” and “what thens”.  She accepted that, now.

As she accepted other things.

Things she had, perhaps, known for a long time -- subconsciously suspecting.  Little hints in a word or a gesture: the look in his eyes when certain questions were asked; the answers that were not given and those that, much later, were.  She saw them, now.

And for the better part of a year, he'd asked her to hate him.

But she didn't.

Of what she did feel: she didn’t have the words for it.  Or, rather, there were no words.  

None, at least, save for the “I’m sorry,” that left her lips; whispered to herself, perhaps, or to the ghost of a woman who looked back from the mirror along with her.  It was a visage locked into her memory -- into her eyes -- from the aged and yellowed parchment from which she’d first been greeted.

She hadn’t the words for any of it, no -- not really. But as she drew away from the glass, she accepted.

And she understood.

LOG 22

My attempts to learn healing magic are, as always, a failure.

Anima keeps barging into my room to yell at me. I do not understand her annoyance. The art of writing letters is not diminished by mere physical proximity, after all. I gave her the letter in person to prove so.

She then proceeded to call me a ‘smartass’ and preformed the action known as a ‘noogie’.
