What's cracking me up about antis and AA haters is that they simultaneously argue AA fans can't deal with him being an evil vampire because how dare they not accept he's abusive but the same people are out there genuinely saying UA is Chaotic Good in that ending. L M A O. And they are also same ones who hate despise his possible corrupt magistrate past. Some would even argue Astarion is True Neutral at the start of the game. They really can't like this character without woobifiyng and reducing his evilness to "he's good deep inside with a heart of gold, everything evil is a trauma response".
Tell them that good-aligned characters can be highly abusive and their smooth brains won't ever get it. Because for them abuse is written in books and is "obvious", "evil=abusive" with no exceptions. I bet those are the same people who would blame victims of abuse like it's nothing, because "how they were unable to see it coming from the first signs".
I constantly see AA fans creating and playing fitting villanious evil Tavs/DU to create a wholesome evil loving couple with AA. While what do we see going on in UA fandom:
- Denying his past as corrupted magistrate
- Ignoring his genuine liking for violence and bloodshed shown throughout the game in literally every act and outcome (an for such actions as betrayal, both AA and UA approve betrayal of Dame Aylin)
- Never seeing him having zero morality when it's something fun for him, killing and death again included
- Claiming that the game is utterly broken and his approvals are as well, simply because it's yet again not quite well fitting into their delusional fantasies, so it needs to be "fixed"
- Liking only a third part of canon game Astarion's content at best, cherry picking what suits their narrative best and throwing out everything else into the void
- Never showing on public spawns/UA lines that show him as the same Astarion we always knew: words about continuing killing people with a smile on his face, death threatening Tav/DU if they break up with him, saying he would create a palace in Underdark while ruling the other spawns
- Getting hysteria from WoTC making of Astarion: his MTG cards, his illustration on cover of "Book of Hungers" - and denying that this is canon, because it doesn't fit their "good pookie Astarion-uwu" picture, so it's also not canon for them
And that's only what I can remember.
But then again, when they are so highly against AA, his fans and his canon image, they also:
- Steal his lines (Aeterna Amantes and every else)
- Steal his bat-form (canonically spawns never possess any shapeshift skills, everything else is a HC)
- Steal his iconic AA outfit
- Then being jealous saying that UA too can be a healthy dom
- Literally just take everything from AA
And whenever this happens they suddenly forget about how terrible, purely evil and abusive AA is. If hating AA, why behaving like AA fan😁
Ah yes, equating everything of his such uncomfortable traits that aren't fitting into his goodie-good image to "trauma response" is so rich, so smart and deep, I'm drowning in this level of media literacy /s
I also saw a couple of times that they do really put it like "evil character=bad person" and then having mental breakdown over "people not wanting him to become a better person". I don't even know how to comment this lmao, it's just a childish fairy-tale level of comprehension.
The hypocrisy in this fandom is high no doubt. (not even telling how they drool after AA on places where they don't show their plain hate for him but then will blame AA fans on sexualising him like it wasn't them five minutes ago joking about their panties flying out by hearing just a couple of AA lines)
