Hi. I have a question. I hope this doesn't come off as rude but how would it be ok for a Christian to watch shows like The Owl House, where the show is directed to kids and has all sorts of LGBT stuff in it? Aren't shows like that basically trying to groom children into stuff like that?
You're not rude at all, this is a very good question.
Obviously TOH and others shows of the like that are trying to market themselves towards children are clearly trying to make kids think LGBTQ life styles are ok, healthy and normal. Which they aren't.
And I wouldn't call it grooming in the sense that the word normally means something else and I don't want the word losing its meaning like so many serious words have started too because of improper use.
I, as an adult with the ability to objectively look at media, can watch the show because the very "in your face/ forced down your throat" message wont change my mind.
However if you have struggled with LGBTQ related temptations/attacks in the past its wise to not watch or read anything that associates with the life style for your own spiritual health.
Shows for years have always had the subtle mention of LGBTQ relationships, its only recent that they are really in your face, and making its way into children's media.
My view on it is that I live in a fallen world and share IRL spaces with many people of many different life styles, and much of the media I have and do consume has many sins portrayed in them, not just LGBTQ ones. (lying, any sexual sin, murder, etc.) So I don't personally have a problems consuming most of that media (I however do have my own struggles and avoid things when I need to, like anything sexual because I do struggle with porn temptations.)
NOW I would never allow my children to watch these kinds of shows, because their minds are so susceptible to the world, and they need a strong foundation before going out into the world. A clear understanding of how the world operates compared to how God desires us to be.
If you don't feel comfortable and convicted at any point watching something, stop. The Holy Spirit knows your heart and your struggles better than I do, and if He's trying to tell you something I'd listen to Him over me, He's much wiser lol.
Every Christians personal convictions are different when it comes to things like this and how they relate to Gods word, the most beautiful thing is how diverse Christians relationships are with God (those that adhere to His Word) and therefore each other.
Thank you for asking, my inbox and dms are always open! Praying for you! 💛
