Having been unemployed for an ‘extended’ time and having all the time in the world for myself, it’s only natural of me if I’ve been sleeping too much for the past months. As if I was deprived when I had a job, and now, I’ve got to make-up for those lost sleeps. Wait..but I’ve been oversleeping even then?! Errr..uhmm..yeah…
Anyway, what I’m saying is after each lengthy gratifying sleeps, I’m still left with plenty of time on my hands. I almost thought I finally made peace with time, like, we are finally friends! Unlike before when I was constantly chasing it, begging it to slow down so I can keep pace. But I know better. That was just the ‘lazy me’ thinking. So, with all these precious time at my disposal, what better way to spend it than to do what I do best — tumunganga..I mean, THINK.
THINK. THINK. And do more THINKING. And what’ve I been thinking? — Uhm, just stuff, like: what’s the meaning of life?, what’s my purpose? was it really to become a cpa?’, why am I here and not there?, what went wrong?, what do I want?, and more questions that just made me think more. Yep, I’m comfortable inside my head and I tend to spend too much time introspecting. Maybe, too much for my own good. Because when I think too much, even when I started with a positive thought or idea, the negative stuff (i.e. self-doubt & fear) somehow still finds their way into my head. At times, they’re overpowering and leave me crippled to do what I’ve to do. Parang paralysis by analysis. But it’s ok. It just makes me procrastinate but I always do what I have to do naman (’you sure?!).
Aside from thinking, I’ve also been pouring time on self-help books, lifehack.org and other similar blogs, attending The Feast, and watching inspirational talks like TED. I’m currently reading What on Earth am I Here For by Rick Warren and I’m now on Day 9. This book is a lot to take in, I must say. It’s making me realize that, all this time, I’ve been focusing on the wrong thing pala.
Anyways, what came out of all these are some good and useful things like, my personal creed. I’m not really sure if that’s the proper term but these are like my little set of reminders, guides or even self-pep talks. I actually got the idea from The 7 Habbits of Highly Effective People which was, honestly, not an easy read. It’s a work-in-progress but right now, these were what spoke to me strongly from those I’ve read and watched, and what I’ve squeezed out of my mind, heart and soul:
1. Fake it till you become it.
2. Whenever you’re scared to take a risk, ask yourself: What’s the worst that can happen?
3. True happiness comes from SERVICE.
5. Don’t just exist, LIVE! Participate in life.
6. When you find yourself lazing around, get up and DO SOMETHING, anything worthwhile.
7. Always have a back-up plan.
8. Opportunity comes to those who are prepared so BE PREPARED.
9. Never stop learning and upgrading yourself. Develop at least one new skill or proficiency a year.
10. BE PRESENT. Be here. Savor the ‘NOW’ before it’s gone forever.
12. You don’t know everything. BE TEACHABLE.
13. Chill! Choose your battles well. Don’t think that everyone wants a fight with you.
14. Never tire of being good to others even when they’re not nice to you.
15. PRAY often. At least 10 minutes of meditation a day could drive the devil away.
16. Stop burning bridges; instead, build more.
17. When you’re mad, take a deep breath and tell yourself: I control my own feelings!
18. Don’t torture yourself with ‘what-ifs’ and ‘if-onlys’. Move on and learn from your mistakes.
19. Pursue excellence even when no one seems to appreciate you. Make excellence a habit. The fruit of your good works will eventually catch up to you.
20. Be truly generous to your family and other people. Give because you want them to be happy, not because you want them to think nicely of you.
21. Be smart with your finances. Invest. Be frugal. Don’t get distracted with luhos you don’t really need.
22. Plan your day ahead. Prioritize wisely. Plunge, head first, onto difficult tasks then breeze through easier ones, afterwards.
23. Speak out. Don’t be afraid. You could be right. If not, so what? Get over it quickly.
24. Never ever bring your work at home ever again.
25. Cultivate a habit of punctuality.
26. Sleep early so you can wake-up early.
27. Exercise. Your heart needs it.
28. When things get dreary and you feel like bailing out (again), tell your heart this: All is well! (3 idiots). Don’t let your focus wander away from your goal. Plow right through that mountain because, seriously, you’re almost there!
29. You KNOW what you WANT and you GO GET it!
30. Rein in your tongue. Your words can be really hurtful, especially, when you’re angry.
31. You’ve got what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur so don’t give-up on your business ideas until you’ve turned them into reality.
32. That dream you’ve been carrying in your heart ever since you’re a kid? — It’s bound to happen. But do your part, first. Now, go work, work, and work on that skill.
33. So what?! Listen to your heart. Pray for it. And make it happen. :D
34. Don’t let your introversion limit you. Beat it once in a while. Then, recharge.
I’m too honest I’m cringing…
