As a health care professional this virus is definitely getting scarier. i currently work as a nurse and personal support worker, I have to go work everyday knowing that I’m potentially putting myself at risk for getting this virus. I work on a memory care floor in a retirement home, my job isn’t easy but I come to work to help these seniors maintain their dignity and independence. Currently there are some residents at my work that are coughing and have fever and I’m crossing my fingers that it’s not the virus 🤞🏻 but this is something that I have to constantly think about. We don’t have much equipment to keep us protected so we have to use them appropriately. But even though I have to go to work I still self isolate. I self isolate in the morning and go to work in the evening, this is something I do to help break the chain. I self isolate for myself to keep me protected, I do it for my family who are susceptible to getting this virus. I self isolate for my coworkers so that way they don’t get sick, because when one health care worker is down it effects everyone. I also do it for the residents that I care for, especially the 101 year old lady that I get the pleasure of helping, this woman really puts me to shame, I mean couple months ago she had a fall and got very sick, I seriously had my doubts about whether or not she would live, but she did! She fully recovered and is back to being herself. This woman is very independent and apart from the dementia she is still very with it! But I do know that if she got this virus it will take her down so I self isolate to protect her. I also self isolate to keep the retirement home safe in general because if one resident here gets the virus it will spread like wildfire, creating more work for us health care workers.
I don’t know how much more we can stress to you all to stay at home! I understand that some people are used to being very busy and not used to sitting around all day but you need to stay home. As a Nurse/PSW I wish I could stay home just like all of you who just has to sit on the couch or those who have to work from home, but I can’t I don’t have that option. So please stay home.
One last thing, I want to thank @taylorswift for being one of those people who are helping me get through this difficult time. Thank you for the showing your gratitude to us health care workers it means a lot. Your music is helping me stay calm and positive. Love you Taylor! ❤️
