Getting dressed
All my life I had problems with getting dressed in the morning. I simply cannot think of the best thing to wear, either because it is the laundry, I do not feel comfortable with certain parts of my body that an item emphasizes or it just does not fit my mood. Even though I have a 400 piece wardrobe (which regrettably is true), there still were days I really had a little crisis with myself.
In order to solve this problem I also started searching the internet, and I found the perfect solution. I downloaded an App (http://www.stylebookapp.com/) on my phone in which I imported the complete content of my wardrobe. This app allows me to create outfits out of my closet and save them. Believe it or not, but this has had a huge impact on my dressing routine. The app fulfills the function of organizing my wardrobe and creating an overview of what I have. This, mother nature clearly forgot to give me. The result is that I look in my app to find an outfit for the day, instead of in my closet. I can place the outfit I wear on the agenda, so I can look back what I wore before and discover patterns in my choices. I discovered that it is okay to wear one outfit several times (but not more than once a week) and I also found combinations that I hadn’t seen before. When you have all the items you want in your closet, it is a no brainer to get dressed in the morning with this app.
The main pattern that I found is that my outfit principally consists of a shirt and trousers or a dress. A blazer or sweater I wear just for warmth, but I always want to be sure it fits the outfit. This I easily solved by buying a white blazer, a black blazer, a grey blazer and a black sweater. For slightly warmer days I have a black and a light pink button-up vest. Although I consider it to be of less importance, I can never go wrong on this part and this works for me.
I think an outfit is really defined by the shoes. I really like to give my look something a little special by wearing the right shoes. The consequence is that I have several pairs of shoes. To me they are all different, but the one thing they have in common is that they have a high heel, or no heel at all, and they are all black since I ruined my awesome pair with crocodile print (see Define Style).
I think it is not an issue to wear the same outfit every now and then. Before I really saw this as an issue, because I didn’t feel ‘stylish’ or whatever if I wore the same outfit to the same occasion twice. Now I know that it is the most important that the outfit works for me, and I’ll be the only one who has any feelings about wearing that same outfit. This makes life a lot easier.
In essence it all comes down to knowing what’s in your closet, and knowing what you like to wear. When you find you have enough outfits that you like, you just pick one in the morning and that’s that. I use an App but of course there are a lot of ways to achieve this, for instance by making a map on your computer, phone or wall of your items and favorite outfits. One stress-factor to stripe off the stress-list.
