Sandro long-sleeved knitted dress with round neck. Various style effects in the knit. Cinched waist … - E-Boutique Sandro
This is my most recent purchase! I like this brand a lot for its high quality fabrics and nice fit, so I’m very glad I found the dress I wanted here.
As you can see in my wardrobe on my Pinterest (https://www.pinterest.com/masterinoffice/work-wardrobe/), I didn’t have an A-line dress yet. I really wanted a knitted dress because it’s nice and warm but also acceptable in the office.
I’m going to wear it with my pointy toed Geox ankle boots, black tights, my rose colored watch and pearl earrings. Can’t wait :)
MaxMara Pegno Straight Leg Trousers ❤ liked on Polyvore (see more straight leg trousers)
If you suffer from the French-girl style obsession, as many us us do, you must have heard by now of Clemence Poesy. She is of the sort of Parisian chic icons who manifests a unique unpolished beauty, a bohemian versatile look which oscillates between the girl next door and the Red Carpet superstar. Steal the […]
Some Parisian style inspiration!
You know how you used to wear one pair of jeans for 4 months straight and buy 20 different shirts to match them up with? Well, pants are the new shirts. This season, in my humble opinion, its all a…
A very interesting text about choosing trousers! Although the post dates from 2011, personal style rules are timeless.
Getting dressed
All my life I had problems with getting dressed in the morning. I simply cannot think of the best thing to wear, either because it is the laundry, I do not feel comfortable with certain parts of my body that an item emphasizes or it just does not fit my mood. Even though I have a 400 piece wardrobe (which regrettably is true), there still were days I really had a little crisis with myself.
In order to solve this problem I also started searching the internet, and I found the perfect solution. I downloaded an App (http://www.stylebookapp.com/) on my phone in which I imported the complete content of my wardrobe. This app allows me to create outfits out of my closet and save them. Believe it or not, but this has had a huge impact on my dressing routine. The app fulfills the function of organizing my wardrobe and creating an overview of what I have. This, mother nature clearly forgot to give me. The result is that I look in my app to find an outfit for the day, instead of in my closet. I can place the outfit I wear on the agenda, so I can look back what I wore before and discover patterns in my choices. I discovered that it is okay to wear one outfit several times (but not more than once a week) and I also found combinations that I hadn’t seen before. When you have all the items you want in your closet, it is a no brainer to get dressed in the morning with this app.
The main pattern that I found is that my outfit principally consists of a shirt and trousers or a dress. A blazer or sweater I wear just for warmth, but I always want to be sure it fits the outfit. This I easily solved by buying a white blazer, a black blazer, a grey blazer and a black sweater. For slightly warmer days I have a black and a light pink button-up vest. Although I consider it to be of less importance, I can never go wrong on this part and this works for me.
I think an outfit is really defined by the shoes. I really like to give my look something a little special by wearing the right shoes. The consequence is that I have several pairs of shoes. To me they are all different, but the one thing they have in common is that they have a high heel, or no heel at all, and they are all black since I ruined my awesome pair with crocodile print (see Define Style).
I think it is not an issue to wear the same outfit every now and then. Before I really saw this as an issue, because I didn’t feel ‘stylish’ or whatever if I wore the same outfit to the same occasion twice. Now I know that it is the most important that the outfit works for me, and I’ll be the only one who has any feelings about wearing that same outfit. This makes life a lot easier.
In essence it all comes down to knowing what’s in your closet, and knowing what you like to wear. When you find you have enough outfits that you like, you just pick one in the morning and that’s that. I use an App but of course there are a lot of ways to achieve this, for instance by making a map on your computer, phone or wall of your items and favorite outfits. One stress-factor to stripe off the stress-list.

Finding out what works
This post is the most important one to me. This is because I really believe that you should always stick to the styles that work for you personally, regardless of the pictures you find on the internet of girls with supernice styles. Their style is so nice because it works for them, but that doesn’t mean it will work for you. The images can be used perfectly for inspiration. I for instance learned that the height of the waist of trousers defines whether it fits well or not.
I am small, only 1.60m, so for trousers I have to stick to a pair from the H&M summer collection. These are meant to be 3/4, but it hits my ankles perfectly. The waistline is meant to be medium, but it fits me as a high waist, which I think looks nice on me. I am searching endlessly for a new pair because I really want a pair of grey trousers, but I haven’t found a well-fitting pair yet. This means I keep searching until I find the perfect pair. I know that otherwise I won’t wear it anyway.
Because I have only one pair of trousers, I mostly wear dresses. Overall I have an hourglass figure, although I think my shoulders are relatively broad. Therefore I can wear in principle most dress-styles, but I try to wear only wear dresses with longer than ¾ sleeves.
To figure out what works for your body is very personal. For some this really takes time and experience, which means making mistakes! But there is nothing wrong with making mistakes as long as you learn from it. This way everyone can discover their style in the end J

Defining Style
After browsing Pinterest for indefinite periods just after I heard that I got the job, I found that style is not about what you wear, but about the way your clothes work for your body. This seems an open door, but to me it really was an eye-opener. I have seen thousands of pictures of girls wearing clothing that works perfect on them which are labelled ‘fashion’. These photos really contained all possible fashion trends that I know, and I think I know quite some. Therefore I’ve come to the conclusion that ‘fashion’ is not about trends, but about wearing clothes that really work for you. Whether that are flared, straight or skinny jeans and a high waste, a low waste or no waste at all.
You can blend real short-term trends like cropped tops and leather accents into the looks that work for you if you want to, but I don’t think that’s necessary if you want to be stylishly fashionable, or whatever you name it.
In the end you will find that some combinations work for you, and I think it is very wise to stick to those combinations, make them your ‘rules’ and play with them. If you have found your personal style rules and style your pieces accordingly, you’ll feel stylish at any time.
The importance of these conclusions should not be underestimated. To me it means that I spend a substantially smaller amount of money on clothing. This is important, because starting a new lifestyle like I just did by starting my first job, I had to buy a whole new wardrobe!
In order to get straight for myself what I wanted to wear, I had to make some necessary and perhaps self-evident considerations.
First of all, there is the budget. For me it was obvious that I couldn’t buy everything at once because I wanted a sustainable, high quality wardrobe that can last for at least a whole year.
Secondly, there’s the style of the office. I work in a very big organization with a lot of different people dressing differently, some dressing rather formal, others dressing very casual. The average age is around 40, but fortunately there is a great share of young people. This means that I have a lot of freedom to develop my own style. This second consideration was very hard to make for me, and made me search blogs endlessly. I simply didn’t know what people in Dutch offices wear, because I had absolutely no experience with this. I think it is impossible to know in advance the precise style of the office because every office has its own, so perhaps it is wise to make this consideration quickly after you started the job.
Thirdly and lastly, I think it is important to stick to your own preferences while shopping in the field of comfort. This might sound strange, but I made a great mistake here! I love high heels, but they obviously have downsides with them, like sour toes and, not least important, cold feet (literally). Because I was afraid my feet would hurt too much when I’d wear my favorite heels all day, I took them to the shoemaker and let him shorten them. I can’t be more sorry about this decision than any I have made in this process, because now I don’t like them anymore! I like the edginess of a high heel, and now they are shortened, they are just not what I want shoes to be. So my favorite heels are now dusting away in the backside of my shoe closet. This also applies to what kind of pieces you prefer. I bought some blazers, but I discovered that a sweater is sometimes a better and far more comfortable solution at chilly times. I think his problem can also arise when choosing materials and shapes and all other considerations you make while shopping too.
Concluding I think that style should be about your body and the importance that you personally give to comfort. The art is to fit these in your budget and the company you work for.
First Post! Let’s Introduce
I am 22 years old and just a month ago I have obtained my law degree. After a few internships, I’ve now started my first ‘real’ job in an office. I am amazed about the changes that this brings to my life and therefore I have searched the internet for people in a similar situation. I however found it hard to find the right blog. In my search I found that my problems are slightly different from the problems on the main ‘office fashion’ blogs, perhaps because I am Dutch. Therefore I decided to start my very own blog in order to figure out for myself how to live my new life and perhaps to find people that find themselves in the same situation with similar problems. In this blog I try to address the typical ‘girl problems’ that come on top of the endless tiredness and newly discovered levels of stress that a first job turns out to cause for me.
My main focus is on personal style. I thought I had figured out for myself quite well what looked good on me and what I liked to wear. However, before I mainly had to worry about dressing for a lecture, dinner with friends or a party. Now I spend most of my waking day at an office with colleagues and clients. This has caused a rapid and very necessary change in my style choices and that brings problems with it I didn’t even know existed. With style comes clothing, hair, nails and make-up for me. This is what I write about in this blog, and I very much hope you will enjoy reading and find inspiration, like I do.
