Tell me about Hungary. For research (I’ve been hc’ing a character as Hungarian and I’m really really interested in learning about the culture and all that. Also y’all’s folktales fucking slap!!)
i'm sorry this took so long sjhdfkshjfdg i am a very effective procrastinator
i am very honoured to be asked about my culture even though i completely blank out when i actually have to think about things hbhbhbhbhh;;;; also very glad you enjoy our folktales, i gotta rebinge the adapted series. apparently it's coming back or something? idk i think i saw a stray article about it a couple weeks ago, but it would be kinda neat nonetheless if it did. i miss the cozy feels of just sitting down and watching some good hungarian folktales. (also unfortunately there is no english subtitles for it, otherwise i would recommend a similarly old children's puppet show called "süsü the dragon". it's a very sweet tale that's great for any age category that i grew up with on vhs and i am so mad that there isn't any subs. i've considered a couple times to sub it for english-speaking friends but that would take a long ass time hhhh maybe one day;;;)
honestly i'm not really sure what to say since there wasn't any specific thing asked, so i'll just try to ramble my way out of this one kjfg if i scrape my brain hard enough i will come up with something
first of all we drink a lot. like a whole lot. it's always been kinda weird to me that it's always the irish that get all the "haha drunk funni" jokes when we drink just as much if not more, and our culture includes alcohol just as much, if again, not more. lmao. it's not a brag of any ways don't get me wrong, it's just always been weird to me considering i grew up in a family where i was actively offered to drink alcohol at gatherings when i was around 14 (though my mom has never been much of a fan of it since almost the whole fam consists of alcoholics fdkgj. i am nearing my mid-20s and my mom still pulls her mouth when i wanna get some booze for a hangout (and i barely ever drink)). also the country is just oozing with alcoholics in general (obvs not a brag lmfao please help). i have no idea if it's sold overseas or anything but try pálinka if you can. pálinka and tátra tea are great (if you are into strong shots or similar that is kfjdg if you prefer lighter shit like wine or beer then it's probs not for you don't trust me lmao i drink like a geezer and i am certainly my father's daughter in this aspect)
i like to believe that we pride ourselves in our hospitality. that's one thing i really like about our culture. also the pagan holidays that stayed are the bests, anyone can fight me on that. any time i explain one of our pagan holidays it escalates into utter chaos and wheezing. i love our holidays so much. apparently we love fire, which was a revelation to me when i was first explaining farsang 'festivities' to a couple american mutuals on call. i mean. it's perfectly normal to make a bunch of small dolls out of corn husks and then make a huge one that's akin to a scarecrow (or as i have been told by the same moots, jesus on a cross), that you then stick into the middle of a massive campfire, which you then throw all the small dolls into to burn, and dance and sing around it to chase away the winter cold. there's also just the may tree which is a concept that also turns my friends into giggling fools whenever i mention it; it's a whole ass tree a guy grabs and decorates and then at like, dawn, brings it over to his crush's garden. at least that's how WE did it where i grew up, idk if it's accurate or anything. and easter where guys just dump a bucket of water on girls' heads at 6 in the goddamn morning. i love holidays! please please please feel free to search them up they are very fun and i miss actively celebrating them. a very funny one is luca's chair for a quick rec. i could talk about a few of these for hours on end but this post is gonna be long as it is already so apologies.
we are people who are good at horseback riding and equestrian stuff. i grew up in a small town in the country where we still do like harvest parades where there are carriages led by horses and we gather together to drink and feast and dance (i used to perform folkdancing at similar events and i miss it dearly. i also miss horseback riding. oh well disability be upon me)
i'm getting sleepy so i'll have to cut this here (it's like almost 5 am pls pray for my sanity) but i'm gonna say that. lángos fucks. please eat lángos. and kűrtőskalács. and erm.... aranygaluska. and túró rudi. i'd add blood sausages here but people aren't usually a fan of them (meanwhile god i love them. we got a couple from a friend's pig slaughter like a week ago and it was so fucking yummy holy shit) also also also pls drink madártej and listen to some folk music while we are at recommendations <3
(here is one i used to do warm-ups to when i was actively folkdancing! vvv)
have a little me in one of my performing dresses before going on stage as a finishing thingy
also have fun with this i guess lmao
(and thank you for asking again!!! if there's anything more specific or other stuff you wanna know that i left out feel free to lmk my memory is ass and my adhd certainly does not help me. i lost my train of thought a billion times while writing this and then i got tired. dkfgj;;;;)
