Uh, not to be weird or anything but I saw ur post abt lights desk trap and how if L looked into Light had a defence,,I jut saw that it's mentioned in the manga that they did search lights desk but only find a journal of him trying to solve the kira case. This was during the confinement tho, so light probably disabled the trap. (Looking back, he got so lucky with so much )
Hi personette— you’re probably talking about this post? Since the Death Note would burn up if the trap went off, Light would lose all his memories of the Death Note. His defense would be genuine since he’d believe that the trap really was about his diary. He wouldn’t have a memory of any other reason so he wouldn’t appear to be lying to L or anyone who asked.
But regarding searching the desk, I meant the time that L had someone break into Light’s room and place 60+ spy cameras, which was much earlier than Light’s confinement. There’s a diagram in the manga of everywhere the cameras were placed which included Light’s desk. It would have been a prime opportunity to poke around a little since L’s agent was already in Light’s room. But yeah, by the time Light volunteered for confinement he’d already buried the Death Note in a secure location for Misa to find later; it wasn’t in his desk anymore so he had no need for the trap, and it makes sense they didn’t find anything but a case journal at that point (which Light wanted them to find to explain his hacking of his Dad’s computer). The Death Note WAS there during the camera placement; they were so close.
Tbh I’m not sure whether it was lucky or unlucky for Light’s Kira plans that L’s agents didn’t accidentally trigger the trap at that point. I have a long rambly post in my drafts about how the canon story would have changed if that had happened, but the end result of several options I considered was the same— Ryuk wasn’t going to stop coming to Earth and given the chance, would have brought a memoryless Light another notebook instead of Minoru. The second notebook would have come at a time when Light was older, more cautious, less impulsive, and already knew about L— making Kira 2.0 a lot more dangerous and harder to catch.
