I got to listen to Dr. Heidi Grant speak on fixed mindset versus #growthmindset recently at #Perspectives2020 , and I got so much out of that session. Anything we try to do should not be able proving ourselves to others or demonstrating our abilities. It should be about IMproving ourselves. The analogy that resonated with me most (because I’m guilty 🙋🏼♀️) was the kid in school that keeps doing poorly in math. They make it about doing well, and when they fail over and over again, they feel defeated and internalize that they “just aren’t a math person” and that they “just aren’t good at math”. People aren’t born great at anything. Sure some people are born with genetics that predispose them to being stronger at certain things, but to be truly great at anything takes a significant amount of time, effort, and practice. It means failing over and over again, but learning from the failures and using the experiences to do things differently next time and hopefully achieve your goal. That is the true meaning of having a growth mindset. Of course you still get upset if you fail, but you don’t let it defeat you. You consult an expert, you try a different approach, you do SOMETHING differently next time and the time after that until you make it. You can’t fail if you’re always working to improve yourself, because even if you don’t achieve the specific goal you set out to do, you still learned, you grew, and you’ll know better next time. . . . . #heidigrant #mindset #mindsetiseverything #mindsetmatters #mindsetshift #fail #failure #failforward #growth #success #successquotes #successmindset #successful #motivation #motivationalquotes #motivational #motivated #inspiration #inspire #inspirational #inspirationalquotes #perspective #positivevibes #positivity #positiveenergy #positivemindset #positivethinking #positivevibesonly https://www.instagram.com/p/CAQVDvFj5cM/?igshid=1am249uf65qzl
