The Creature and his beautiful son sharing a delightful and delicious patch of moss together
Cultivated Porcellionides pruinosus
A. vulgare found literally right outside our apartment door while taking the trash out. I thought one of our gestroi had escaped somehow lol! Got little guy set up with some food and I'm gonna see how they get on
Ooooo prettyyyyy
This orange isopod really likes this spot, I see them there pretty often
Got some Mixed Fruit Jellybeans today! They're St. Lucia Isopods (Armidillidium Vulgare) ans they naturally breed in a variety of colors.
Got them from Isopod Depot, 10+2 and all arrived alive. Let's hope they do well
For people not in the isopod community I made:
1. If you want to see pod pictures feel free to ask!
2. MY COOLEST ISOPOD IS CURRENTLY GIVING BIRTH I PICKED HER UP TO CHECK AND THERES BABIES COMING OUT!!!!!!!! EPIC
FOUND!!!! LOOK AT THE PATTERN ON THIS BEAUTY I FOUND HER OUTSIDE!!!! This is either the pregnant one or her sister who I found first they’re very identical but I definitely have two separate but identical pods
Welcome to my new pet, illi the isopod! She arrived in my home by fate on a violet plant yesterday. @onenicebugperday has helpfully IDed her as Philoscia muscorum.
I found this really comprehensive care sheet:
I have set her up in a tupperware with holes poked in it filled with some leaf litter i collected at my local park, which i know to be pesticide free, so she should be happy now!
I'm hoping to get some other native buddies for her soon, but for now she can settle in. i can imagine being sent in the mail might be slightly traumatic!
