GPS Tracking for Pets
Meet Ms Rella
Ms Rella is a new member of the family and was previously owned by the most amazing woman I've ever known (but that's a story for a different post). Rella may be cute as a button and the sweetest black lab/black mouth cur dogs you've ever seen, however she also has some issues with running away. Due to my paranoia of Rella abandoning me for the tempting alleys and caliche roads of West Texas, I decided early on that I needed to find a GPS tracking system (similar to what I've been integrating onto our company's work vehicles) so that, in the case of Rella's adventurous nature kicking in, I'd be able to quickly track her down.
There are a number of different GPS products on the market, however after thorough research I decided to try out the Tagg product. Tagg bragged about incorporating all of the key feature sets that I was looking for:
Re-chargeable battery operated system that would track Rella 24/7
Geo-fencing capability
Robust alert system
Easy set up
Multiple style options
After testing the system out I wanted to give a review of the product so far.
Here is Rella wearing the Tagg device:
System Itself
The device is battery powered and has a charging station with a USB outlet for charging the battery. I attempted using my wall mounted USB port and the device would not charge properly, so make sure that you utilize the provided outlet converter. The battery charged full in a couple of hours and seems to be functioning perfectly.
Geo-fencing capability & Alert System
If you have an escape artist pet you already know how nice it would be if you could setup a virtual fence around your property and sent alerts if your dog/cat ventured outside of the boundary line. The Tagg system does this process seamlessly, on your pet's web profile you can setup an address and geo-fence that will automatically send you an email and/or text message whenever your pet leaves the property. This feature will automatically notify me if Rella decides to leave the boundary I setup for her, and if I go on vacation I can setup the geo-fence for wherever I hire a pet sitter.
Easy Setup
I was able to setup the entire system in a matter of about 15 minutes, including the website profile that enabled the geo-fence around the property. The device itself took a couple hours to fully charge, however the activation was very basic.
Multiple Style Options
Since I would never want Rella mistaken for a boy dog, Tagg offers a great selection of style/color options so you can coordinate your own pet's style with their GPS tracking device.
So that was a long post to simply say: if you're looking for an easy to use product to track your pets, I highly recommend the Tagg system (and so does Apple, which is not an easy endorsement to get).
Disclaimer: I was not given the Tagg system or compensated for this post in any way shape or form.
