If you agree to have your pet put down to spare them pain, and you don’t spend their last moments with them you never deserved that pet.

I was there for both my dogs at the last moment. My nan and dad had to hold me up as we left after Willow died. And I had to be physically removed from the room by my mum after Kong passed. 

I didn’t want to watch them die, but God knows I would hate to die alone and there was no way in hell I was going to let two members of my family die without anyone they knew around them.

With Willow it was only supposed to be my nan and dad there. But I begged and pleaded, and got into the car despite being told I should stay at home, despite knowing I wasn’t in an emotionally secure place to watch the dog I had grown up alongside die. Because I wanted her to be surrounded by as much love as possible. 

Your pet is your family, you should treat them the way you would treat any family member. You don’t let family members die alone with no one but a stranger.
