From Heritage Auctions.
This incredible jam-piece showcases the wide variety of genres represented in the "Alternate" comics market of the bountiful 1980s. Reaching from the classic archives of Hal Foster's Prince Valiant, and Will Eisner's The Spirit, through the tumultuous Underground Comix wave of the 1960s (via Gilbert Shelton's Wonder Wart-Hog), to new material that was already classic 1980s fare such as Don Simpson's Megaton Man, Jaime Hernandez' Love and Rockets, and Dennis Fujitake's Dalgoda. New Age Comics was a cross-promotional book that supported many of the alternative and small press publishers. The cover art was created in ink over graphite on 14" x 17" Bristol board. The Spirit figure is an original art paste-up by Eisner. Simpson, Hernandez, Fujitake, and Eisner all supplied art for their own characters. The other two are by the hand of Peter Poplaski. The logo is hand-lettered.
