Sketchbook study page to keep myself drawing and playing with all the processes - looking at Kaneko Atsushi, Terada, Rick Griffin and listening to a lot of Aesop Rock's Spirit World Field Guide (among other things). Using the worst animation paper (again.) and just a 'Uniball Micro 207 Plus' to ink - ugh. [Col Erase / Mechanical Pencil / Ink / TVPaint]

one of my favorite drawings I've ever done. I've rarely try to do any scenes like this and even rarer to put plants in a drawing. but I'm a plant parent now so I've been finding it super fun. So plants from here on out ha.

Hey everyone!

It's been a while since I posted any art. This one is doing double duty because I also wanted to announce that I'm preparing to launch a Patreon in a week!

After my last post, I received a lot of messages from you all about starting one and I always avoided it since I worked full-time at a studio, but now I don't so this is probably the best time to do it.

I'll have more details later this week but for now, have some art!

…sketchbook studying/readjusting - process for continuing to move along ideas for a Gorillaz - etc. comic while studying from Ron Wimberly and Brendan McCarthy to get something down on the page. 2D & Noodle find themselves witness to the unraveling (or are they just figments of ) Murdoc's imagination as he gets experimented on? Dr. Octagon accessing his recesses… aboard the space station in the seclusion of the artificial pocket dimension? Or is this possibly taking place independently dependent upon events unfolding in another dimension…? [Col Erase / Mechanical Pencil / Ink / TVPaint]

...sketchbook studying/readjusting - process for continuing to move along ideas for a Gorillaz - etc. comic while studying from Masamune Shirow, Dustin Weaver, Terada... to get something down on the page (tried a Ghost in the Shell style version this time). Under the care of La Patrona, Cyborg Noodle recovers memories from Dr. Octagon's space station where she was taken prisoner after a brutal assault on her Black Clouds & allies, who gave to their last & still failed to repel Dr. Octagon's operators. Meanwhile, the flesh and blood Noodle has presently found herself in a predicament upon the Space Station (studying Frankenstein personnel for Dr. Octagon - originally inspired by the Mindless Self Indulgence album art) & just who or what is Mr. Nogatco?! ...sketchbook readjustment sesh - process for continuing with my spontaneous comic chapter 'The Lurking Fate That Came to Murdoc'. Having taken his sample, Dr. Octagon verbally ruminates on the possibilities awaiting Murdoc as he is interrupted by Nurse Fran, now concerned that this new nurse (Noodle) is not in accordance with station nurse protocol. In a panic, Noodle suggests they use the Mind Reader on Murdoc to retrieve memories of his immortality to distract and hopefully persuade the Dr. from the more outlandish of his ideations. Not accustomed to receiving suggestions, Dr. Octagon humors this new nurse - having paid no attention to Nurse Fran, she recedes from the Dr. as thoughts bite into the segmented organ that is her brain - chainsaws scraping for purchase)  [Col Erase / Mechanical Pencil / Ink / Cleaned Up & Colored in TVPaint]

...sketchbook readjustment sesh - process for current page of my spontaneous comic chapter 'The Lurking Fate That Came to Murdoc'. Secreted away aboard Dr. Octagon's Space Station for Scientific Exploitation, Murdoc undergoes the Dr's rigorously meticulous methods of testing for the source of his immortality... "or must the specimen die to reincarnate?" the Dr. mutters just as his new nurse enters the laboratory scattering his thoughts... ...sketchbook readjustment - process for working up the next panel of the current page of my spontaneous comic. Lost track of the Gorillaz lore & swore that Murdoc was immortal... part of the Four Horsemen? Walking Embodiment of the Black Plague or something...? The inspiration here was a Kelley Jones panel composition - digging the transition from the space station down to Murdoc rather than Dr. Octagon's head speaking (in the ruffs) / mix of Space Dandy & Ultra Heaven for the space station... also looking at Hewligan's Haircut for some Jamie straight jacket styles (Col Erase / Mechanical Pencil / Ink / Scan Cleaned in TVPaint)

...been really under the weather lately but continuing to sketchbook (on paper that is far too thin for this) with ideas for a Dr. Octagon character - basing his design this time on a mixture of some Alex Horley / Simon Bisley / Tomm Coker while trying to get him in the same world as the Gorillaz stuff I been doing - included Jamie's Frankenstein Girl as nurse & a prototype Boogieman Baby Briefcase from the lab - could that be a cloned Murdoc in there?!
