Hack the FINEST Tunnel with AEC Hackathon!
The FINEST Tunnel community invites you to hack the four stations of the future tunnel between Tallinn and Helsinki.
The challenge is how to optimize the people flow between these two great cities by the fantastic design of the stations and their surrounding areas. How could citizens be involved in design, construction, use and maintenance of the tunnel project? Co-living, co-working, co-everything… Let’s co-create designs, tools, processes and services to make the FINEST Tunnel project happen!

The background
Peter Vesterbacka announced the FINEST Tunnel project between Tallinn and Helsinki in his keynote at the previous AEC Hackathon Helsinki in June 2016. Now it’s time to get the AEC Hackathon community more involved and help turn the idea into reality. AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) Hackathon originates from the USA and has been hugely successful in bringing built environment professionals and technology experts together to collaborate and improve how our built environment is designed, built, and operated. It has quickly become a global community of innovators that include all elements of the built environment. AEC Hackathon has been organized twice in Finland (November 2015 and June 2016) and is now organized as part of Ultrahack 2016.
The built environment is experiencing a digital transformation where new digital tools, data and technologies are increasingly taken into use. These technologies include 3D models, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), IoT (Internet of Things) sensors, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. The industry needs new bright talents to solve the challenges and help companies to adopt these new technologies. In addition to the FINEST Tunnel challenge, AEC Hackathon community is awarding projects that will 1) solve a big problem for a built environment profession, 2) use open city data and open standards, and 3) improve hacks from previous AEC Hackathon events.
AEC Hackathon Helsinki is held during November 25th-27th 2016 together with Ultrahack at Vallila Konepaja Bruno.

Peter Vesterbacka gave a keynote where he announced that he will build a tunnel between Helsinki and Tallin. That announcement got some media interest. We recommend watching Peter's keynote because it was very inspiring! Damon was so convinced that he proposed that from now on every AEC Hackathon will have an Angry Building Challenge.
SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT! Peter Vesterbacka, the Mighty Eagle of Rovio, will be our keynote speaker on Saturday! Do not miss this opportunity to find out what the AEC industry could learn from Angry Birds!
Angry Birds maker Rovio teases Shakira partnership
Shakira is going to be part of Rovio’s Angry Birds family. That’s not so easy to do, as her hips don’t lie but the cartoon characters don’t actually have hips. In any case, Rovio just shared a new video on YouTube that hints at the coming partnership with Shakira. In the video, Rovio marketing executive Peter Vesterbacka, […] http://goo.gl/WybSs4 #Playistic

Finns unveil IronDanger, a giant fantasy film trilogy they’re doing in ‘spare time’
Disclosure: The organizers of Slush 2014 paid my way to Helsinki. Our coverage remains objective. HELSINKI — As far as side projects go, “IronDanger” is a doozy. But that’s the Finns for you. A team of animators from Rovio, Supercell, and a dozen other Finnish companies said they had banded together in their spare time […] http://goo.gl/y5sBDw #Playistic
