Winners and presentations
It was an exciting and hectic November weekend when the last AEC Hackathon was held in Helsinki. We finally got our energy levels up and had enough time to update this page with the list of winners and presentations from the event.
We had 5 fine teams hacking the finest tunnel between Helsinki and Tallinn. The winner of the hackathon was Team SpaCyPhy_GO which took the travel experience to the next level by creating new a hazzle free traveling experience between the cities. Congrats for Vishal Singh, Mehmet Yalcinkaya, Burak Erkan and Liu Xi!
The second was Team Swat Injections which created tools utilizing machine learning technologies to help building lean and optimized designs for the FinEst tunnel project. Congrats to Ricardo Farinha, Jyri Tuori, Luis Rioyo, Pauli Lindholm and Niina Jaatinen
The third was Team Swat NoMads which enabled new ways for construction projects to engage with the community. Congrats to Sami Karhumäki, Kalle Koljander, Merja Taipaleenmäki, Minna Arola and Niina Jaatinen!
Team Vacant.place (Vitaly Stockman and Andrei Markeev) developed a solution for smart co-working spaces at tunnel stations - and elsewhere. Large corporations can take advantage of Workspace-as-a-Service trend, save money and provide more flexibility for the employees.
Team Finest Village (Aki Nicholas Gibson, Jukka Rannisto and Holly Gibson) innovated new VR visualizations for changing household energy consumption behaviors.

What’s different and how to join?
If you have been to previous AEC Hackathons, the next hackathon coming on November 25th-27th is slightly different. Firstly, the registration is free (yay!). The second difference is that registration is done via Ultrahack website. The third difference is that you register as individual, but you should join or form a team with a project for Built Environment track. You can see who has already registered and what kind of project submissions has been proposed.
Final and the main difference is that approximately 10 project submissions will be selected to Ultrahack main event. The deadline for submissions is Nov 18th at noon (EET). If you want to have step-by-step introduction how to join then go this HOW-TO-JOIN page.

Hack the FINEST Tunnel with AEC Hackathon!
The FINEST Tunnel community invites you to hack the four stations of the future tunnel between Tallinn and Helsinki.
The challenge is how to optimize the people flow between these two great cities by the fantastic design of the stations and their surrounding areas. How could citizens be involved in design, construction, use and maintenance of the tunnel project? Co-living, co-working, co-everything… Let’s co-create designs, tools, processes and services to make the FINEST Tunnel project happen!

The background
Peter Vesterbacka announced the FINEST Tunnel project between Tallinn and Helsinki in his keynote at the previous AEC Hackathon Helsinki in June 2016. Now it’s time to get the AEC Hackathon community more involved and help turn the idea into reality. AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) Hackathon originates from the USA and has been hugely successful in bringing built environment professionals and technology experts together to collaborate and improve how our built environment is designed, built, and operated. It has quickly become a global community of innovators that include all elements of the built environment. AEC Hackathon has been organized twice in Finland (November 2015 and June 2016) and is now organized as part of Ultrahack 2016.
The built environment is experiencing a digital transformation where new digital tools, data and technologies are increasingly taken into use. These technologies include 3D models, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), IoT (Internet of Things) sensors, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. The industry needs new bright talents to solve the challenges and help companies to adopt these new technologies. In addition to the FINEST Tunnel challenge, AEC Hackathon community is awarding projects that will 1) solve a big problem for a built environment profession, 2) use open city data and open standards, and 3) improve hacks from previous AEC Hackathon events.
AEC Hackathon Helsinki is held during November 25th-27th 2016 together with Ultrahack at Vallila Konepaja Bruno.
