Does the fontaine prophecy remind anyone else of genesis? Like how in christianity we are all supposedly born with an "original sin" which is ALSO a consequence of the original humans (adam and eve) "betraying" God by not following his will, like how people from fontaines sin is (if i remember correctly) not siding with their archon.

In christian tradition people get baptized to enter the religion: being dipped in holy water by a religious authority to "wash away" the original sin. Fontainians who are dipped in holy water, or rather the primordial sea, instead disperse into it, their sin washes away but takes them with it.

Also, fontaine is obviously based on france, specifically taking a lot from eras in which faith was brought into the question (ie the enlightenment and pre revolutionary period based on some clothes being kinda baroque and the difference between the underground and the city) and the civilization before fontaine, remuria ruled by remus and based on rome.

In rome christianity was super not in fashion UNTIL a crazy plague hit and a religion that was mad into caring for the sick (Christianity) suddenly became popular as a result. Remuria fell because of Remus' attepmpts to prevent its fall and Rome fell because of political corruption (and a number of other things).

Oh just a btw dont take this as me talking about how god fearing fontaine is im just talking about what it reminded me of and why 🫶

Dee responds to Patton.

“It appears he was assaulted by the band of thieves and suffered much damage to his health. We may stop for the night as those thieves aren’t coming back anytime soon.”

It is then finally then that Dee pulls down his hood revealing his full face. 

Dee is a half-drow, skin dusky and darker than a humans. His hair is slivery and cascading down his back as he produces a bowler hat from the folds of his cape and in a flourish places it on his head as he doesn’t feel the need to hide his face anymore now that the thieves are gone. His eyes are a different story, his right eye a regular chocolate brown, but Dee’s left eye is a striking yellow.

What sticks out the most however is the significant scarring on the left side of his face, with a scar running from the corner of his mouth back towards his ear.

“However, I feel the need to ascertain who this mysterious fleeing man is as I don’t want more trouble to come to us because of him.”

The man laid out in the wagon brings his head up to bring attention to himself saying, “I’m literally right here, you know. You can just ask me.”

Dee finally looks into the figures eyes and you see a flicker of something in his eyes as he seems to catch himself, possibly seeing something familiar in this stranger. But the moment is fleeting as Dee’s expression immediately cools back into a mask.

“Very well, first, what is your name? And second, why were they chasing you?”

The figure seems caught of guard, but pulls themselves upright despite Patton’s protest that he’ll pass out if he gets up too fast.

“My name’s Peter. Peter Parker.” Peter’s smile is big and genuine. “As for why they were chasing me, I honestly have no clue. I suppose I just got too close and they thought I was easy target as I was alone.”

Everyone appears to believe him, as their body language relaxes and they suddenly seem very okay with this figure. Dee still looks wary, but seems convinced.

“Okay Peter, would you be secure in joining us for the night? We have an extra blanket.”

Peter smiles at Patton who’s holding a blanket out to him and Peter takes it gratefully, settling down as Dee exits the inner pair of the wagon to guide it off the road so they can rest for the night.
