Happy birthday @peterjsonquills!!
unpopular opinion: Sharon Carter is 3000 more interesting than Peggy and they should've focused on her instead of Peggy
agreed 3000%
sharon is easily the best part of any cap comic; her perspective that comes from her training as a spy, as well as the collection of experiences that she’s had, makes for a really interesting dynamic for steve to play off of, and she’s a really cool character in her own right. none of her mcu appearances so far have really captured that, which is such a shame, but i have hope that her coming back for the falcon and winter soldier series will provide more opportunities.
it’s not that i dislike peggy, but yeah, i think sharon’s more interesting, and the spotlight should have shifted when cap’s stories entered the modern era.
send me an ask with any of these!
marvel meme: {3/7} Relationships → Nebula & Gamora
“You will always be my sister.”
☕☕ (topic of your choice, whatever is on your mind 😊)
i really hate what disney is doing to the film industry.
here are the facts: since the recent acquisition of fox, disney now owns approximately 40% of the market share at the global box office, almost twice that of the nearest competitor. 40%. from a single company. even over a period of just a few short years, you can see a shift happening, and it’s not for the better.
you hear about how x movie has now made over $1 billion, and it’s really not such an exclusive club anymore, because disney literally engineers this to make this happen for their releases. in order to show a disney-distributed film, theaters have to agree to show the film for at least four weeks; like, literally, they have to sign a contract saying that they will. this potentially pushes releases from other studios off of screens and does so much earlier than they might have in the past, because theaters want to show a lot of these big disney releases (they’re good money-makers). this is completely 100% intentional by disney; their movies will make money, no matter their actual quality.
(this is how you get a bunch of soulless, sub-par remakes of classic disney films; disney is literally untouchable at the box office at this point, and they can shit out whatever mediocre crap they want to, and it’ll still make money. the cycle keeps repeating itself like this, on and on and on.)
i don’t live in a super massively large city; a lot of movie theaters have pretty limited screen space. do you wanna know what’s playing on those screens a lot of the time? disney releases. again, wholly intentional by the company. they have 40% of the market share, and they want 100%.
this model of film distribution is terrible for smaller, more niche films, and i see less and less of these getting attention by the year. there are so many movies that i don’t even see until they reach some kind of streaming platform, because some of the limited theatrical distribution around me couldn’t accommodate them. and now that fox searchlight, a brand that’s released a lot of quality niche films, is under the disney umbrella, i further worry about the chance for “riskier” films to ever see the light of day.
cinema thrives when we have diverse stories told from diverse perspectives, and when these varying perspectives find an audience. with disney trying their best to keep the box office market in a chokehold, this situation is only going to get worse.
i know, i know, i give my money to marvel films and i’m complicit, but taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture is just. yikes.
send me a ☕️and a topic, and i’ll tell you how i feel about it!
6, 10 and 17
6. would you want to live in a universe where superheros/villains existed?
i would, honestly. we already have villains (i.e. donald trump); it’d be nice if superheroes existed to punch them in the face without qualms.
10. who would win in a 1v1 fight: iron man or captain america?
no one wins and everyone loses because this leads to the marvel fandom still having discourse years later
17. favorite comic book artist?
phil noto! i love his dreamy watercolor style and how he gives women actual realistic proportions and doesn’t sexualize them. kris anka also has a fun style that i really enjoy, as does chris samnee. also carmen carnero’s art on thompson’s captain marvel run has been god-tier, and i want her to draw more stuff from now until forever.
ask me comic book questions!
Do you have any headcanons about a teenage Peter Quill? Teenage Gamora and Nebula ?
here are a few random ones!
1) peter landed himself in jail for the first time when he was 13; he was caught for petty theft because of a dumb mistake he made on a job with the ravagers. it was just for a night, and yondu bailed him out the next morning, but it would actually take peter years to realize that what yondu was doing at the time was, in fact, bailing him out, because he was just focused on the shit he was getting.
2) when gamora was 13, thanos presented her with a gift when she emerged victorious in combat with all of her “siblings” -- it was a sword made out of a unique metal that could cut through almost anything. despite the source, gamora took pride in the sword, because it was something she had earned, and it became her prized possession from that day forth. she named it “godslayer” because it made her feel like she could do anything, even slay someone much more powerful than her and take her life into her own hands.
it was a sliver of impossible hope, but something she clung to for years.
3) before things deteriorated really badly between gamora and nebula, they would often bunk together in the same bed during the night swapping stories that they made up -- because gamora barely remembered the stories from her homeworld, and nebula had none to remember in the first place. it was the only time either of them could find any kind of companionship without it being ripped from them.
Peter/Rich +14 and 15
14. When one has a cold, what does the other do?
well, since rich is pretty much the patron saint of stubborn assholes, and continues to insist, repeatedly, that he's not sick, he has to go respond to this thing, people need him, he's fine, he's fine!!!!! -- until he collapses and what was once a simple cold is now a lot worse, this is mostly going to be peter chasing him around and making him sit the fuck down and chill. this is literally 95% of the battle, but once that's (maybe) won, there's the standard sick care stuff.
peter can be a stubborn asshole too, so rich can get a taste of his own medicine sometimes, but rich is definitely the worst about making life for everyone else hard when he's sick.
15. When they watch a film what do they choose and why? Who gets the final vote?
rich has been back to earth more recently than peter has, and so there's a list of what he thinks are can't-miss pop culture entries; he gets the final vote a lot of the time, although sometimes peter has a suggestion and they go with that.
they generally avoid a lot of space movies because that's their lives anyway, and why would they want to watch what turns out to be a pretty inaccurate depiction of their lives? so, they tend more toward stuff like action movies and comedies.
send me ship headcanons!
Peter/Richard (Gamora?) 41 : because the world is saved
sooo, here we’ve got a loose definition of a kiss and a loose definition of peter/richard/gamora, but basically implied ot3, post-annihilation, etc… thank you for the prompt!
can also be read on ao3 here!
and still accepting prompts from this list :)
It’s over.
In the moment, even with scattered remnants of Annihilus’s guts on his glove, Rich is having a hard time wrapping his mind around it, but the fact remains true. After more than two-hundred days of fighting, which had honestly started to feel more like two-hundred years, it’s over.
It’s over, he mouths the words to himself, testing their weight. We saved the universe.
