Degas’ “Little Dancer” at The Met has gotten a new skirt. Everyone raves about it, the internet doesn’t have big enough words for how fantastic it is. Me? I like it. I like it a lot. But I also think it looks very new, despite the patina. Maybe I just have to get used to it. What I DO like is that it reflects nicely on Degas’ paintings and drawings.
It’s also interesting to hear how the conservator approached the task, the research he did, the fabrics he used and the dye he did to reflect on the original cotton tarlatan. There’s no random choices here!
