Snake badly trying to escape 😢 Lizards are a widespread group of squamate reptiles, with over 6,000 species, ranging across all continents except Antarctica, as well as most oceanic island chains. Snakes and lizards are common inhabitants of all of the world’s hot deserts. Most of these reptiles maintain body temperatures close to 38°C by behavioral thermoregulation. The most common thermoregulatory behavior of lizards and snakes is movement between shade and sun allowing heat gain or loss by radiation and conduction. Typical behavior of lizards immediately after emergence from their nighttime shelter is to select a location where the animal can maximize energy gain by radiation. Lizards select large rocks, branches or trunks of trees, or open ground as basking sites. big lizards can kill snakes. In fact, they do it quite often. Big lizards eat various kinds of small snakes.
