erwin smith, the man that he is, planting himself firmly in my mind and refusing to leave has led me to a full rewatch, one that i intend to actually finish this time instead of wilfully ignoring certain events in shiganshina.

given that i haven't watched the series at all since 2019 it is, in some ways, like watching it again for the first time, which i am absolutely loving because it's so nostalgic, but girl. girl. so many thoughts in this mind. so many emotions over the last day, and i'm only on episode 17.

i honestly forgot how brutal it is, how devastating. some things are always cemented in my mind for how they affected me at the time, but i forgot how intense it is on the whole.

the way i love hange zoe, man. augh. hange brings me so much joy.

watching erwin from the beginning is such a joy, too. he wasn't always my favourite, would you believe, but he overtook everything at some point late 2015/early 2016 and has been at the top ever since. i love how clever he is. i love him as a commander. i love knowing i get to watch his plans unfold in real time again. he's such an excellent character.

i feel like i'm seeing annie/bertholdt/reiner so differently this time. even though i have rewatched before while knowing who they really are, the distance since my last watch has made me notice so many more things between and about them.

levi squad. levi s q u a d. 💖💖💖💖💖.

specifically, petra and auruo and the way they still live so vibrantly in my heart. i love their dynamic. i love the ship. i noticed straight away how well they clearly know each other, loved the teasing, love the way they interact. i fucking love that ship. i will die with it. they love each other deeply and not a single person on this earth can convince me otherwise.

... & on that note, even though i know certain deaths are coming, i feel like i will be no less devastated. infact i think i'm going to be even more devastated. love that for me.

condolences welcomed. we know exactly which death is going to destroy me the most.

for several reasons i am actually really nervous to finish the whole thing. but season one so far has brought back so many memories and so many reasons why i loved it in the first place. i cannot believe the first time i watched this series was ten(!) years ago and it still has so much power over me. and hey, maybe when i finish i will still have wilful ignorance and take things my own way in my mind after certain points and there will be more thoughts to come, i'm sure. but for now, i am very much enjoying the journey all over again.

Dimitris Petrou was born in Drama, Greece (1970) and he lives in Athens, Greece. He has written three poetry books: A' Pathologiki [Medical Ward A] (2013), Chomatourgika [Land works] (2016) and Mora (2018), all of the them published by Mikri Arktos editions.

Dimitris Petrou spoke to Reading Greece* about his three poetry collections noting that he considers them “a trilogy”, where “portraits, landscape and tradition shaped the wheel of a micro-history, which has gone full circle”. He explains that the common ground in all his books is “free verse, everyday non-poetic words and inner rhythm”, and talks about his “writing haunts”, “double negation to achieve positive meaning, small cracks to reveal something new, illusions and expectations intertwined, death as catharsis and catharsis as the ritual of healing”.

Asked about the influence the poets of the 1970s exerted on his writings, he notes that he does “feel emotionally engaged with their work”, but his concern is “to extend his reach and try to comprehend our poetry in its totality”. He concludes that “current Greek literary production seems to be promising”, yet “only time will tell whether the poetry of this new millennium deserves a special place”.

Chapter 16: Buildup to a Dark Moment

Petra was inside the clubroom with Isabel and Zoë. She was nervous about what was going on. Zoë looked at Petra with a worried look on her face. She walked over to her and placed her hand on Petra’s shoulder. “Don’t worry. Whatever is going on we will put an end to it and save everyone including your friend.” Petra smiled a little but couldn’t bring herself to fully smile. Isabel was feeling uneasy. She never saw Petra like this before. She was always super positive and happy. No matter whatever the situation was. Petra noticed Isabel staring at her and smiled a bit. But Isabel shook her head and stood up. “Petra in past you never been like this. What is it about this one case that has you so negative?”

Zoë stared at Isabel with shock and looked at Petra. “It’s ok you know. You don’t have to explain anything.” Petra looked down and shook her head. She looked up and had a peaceful smile on her face. “Its ok Zoë.” She looked at Isabel. “When I first came to this town it was soon after my mother passed away. It was just my dad and I. I had nobody else. When I started school I wanted to make friends but I had trouble. Suddenly one day one girl just came up to me and dragged me to join her and her friends. That person was Jel. Since then we have been great friends.”

Zoë and Isabel just stared at Petra both ready to cry. Petra just looked down. Her face had a hint of sadness. “This is why I am in shock. If anything were to happen to her I don’t know what I would do.” “Don’t worry Petra. We won’t let anything happen to her.” The girls were so engrossed in their discussion they didn’t notice Luna who had entered and was now jumping onto the table. “First things first. We need to find out when this first happened. Also the possible target for it all.” The girls all nodded but then Zoë had a confused look on her face.

“Hold on. Won’t that be hard to do if all the theatre club members are under the influence of the Death Kingdom?” Everyone looked at Zoë in shock. Nobody had thought of that. Luna looked sad. “Sorry Petra. I thought that we might be able to save everyone but it might be harder then we thought.” Petra quickly stood up and ran for the door shocking everyone. Luna quickly ran after her as she left the room. “Petra where are you going?” “To talk to a theatre member. Not everyone is under death kingdom influence.” Luna just stopped and watched Petra run off. Zoë and Isabel soon caught up to Luna. Both were unsure what was happening. “Luna what’s going on?” Luna smiled. “She’s back to herself Isabel.”

Inside a dark area of the theatre room Kení was alone looking at a crystal. It glowed slightly in the darkness and every now and then it would glow even brighter. “Good. The power is growing nicely. Soon I can gain such power unlike any have seen before.” Footsteps were heard nearby. Kení made the crystal disappear. The footsteps entered the area he was in. Alice entered and looked at him. She wasn’t very tall and wore heavy lenses glasses. She looked at Kení. “What are you doing in here alone?” “Nothing my dear Alice. What brings you here?” Alice looks at him curious and shakes her head and turns round. “Its almost time for rehearsals. You should be there to ensure everything goes according to plan.” Kení smiled. “Do not worry. I shall be there soon.” Alice looked at him curiously and just ignored it and walked away. Kení grinned evilly and made his crystal to reappear. “The fear of not being seen and noticed. Also coupled with making this stupid thing a success. Soon the fear will grow even more.” He let off a maniacal laugh as he walked away.

Petra had run all the way from the clubroom to a classroom in the main building. She was panting and looked inside. While staring she was startled when someone placed his or her hand on her shoulder from behind. She jumped and turned round. There stood Levi. “Hi there Petra. Looking for someone?” Petra was just looking at Levi. She wasn’t expecting to bump into him but she was glad she did. Levi just looked at Petra confused. Petra was just dreamily staring when she suddenly remembered why she was there. She shook her head and focused. “Umm have you seen Auruo?” Levi looked confused at Petra. “Auruo said he had to check out something with Theatre production. He has been bit distracted by it lately.”

Petra looked little disappointed he wasn’t there but decided to go find him. “Thanks Levi. Nice seeing you again.” She went past him to leave when Levi stopped her. “I don’t know what’s going on with the theatre club lately but I have a bad feeling. Be careful. If you need help I'll be there.” He went inside and Petra started to sigh dreamily. She suddenly looked surprised. “Could he be…Nah I doubt it,” she said to herself before dashing off to the theatre club.

As she got near the theatre club she saw Auruo walking away from it looking disappointed. As he was walking away he noticed Petra. He was shocked to see her. He wanted to try his luck with her but knew now wasn’t the time by the way she was looking at him also by how out of breath she seemed. He motioned to some benches nearby and sat on them. Petra sat beside him and managed to recover a little from all her running. She was ready to ask him something but he beat her to it. "I take it you need me for something.” Petra felt a bit guilty. She knew she needed to talk to him but she didn’t want him to think she was using him. “Umm…” Auruo smiled.

“Don’t worry. I know it’s important to seek me out and not ask Levi.” Petra smiled weakly. “It’s about the theatre club.” Auruo looked away. “I see.” “I was wondering if you know what was going on. It’s just I saw Jel earlier and she looked exhausted.” Auruo continued to look at the floor. “That may be the case. I’m not sure. It’s just before I left. One of the girls suddenly objected to our production of Beauty and the Beast and wanted to do Alice in Wonderland. Many people objected, as it was too late to change. But eventually people changed their minds and siding with her. Eventually everyone but me agreed to it. I had no choice but to leave.” Petra was shocked to hear this. She placed her hand on her shoulder and comforted him. “So sorry to hear all that. But why are you here now?” He looked at her. “I just kind of hoped I could help a little. No luck though. I was just ignored and told to leave.” Petra was sad to hear that and hugged Auruo. He was shocked she hugged him. She let go and got up. “Sorry about all that. I hope things get better for you. Well sorry to leave suddenly but I better get to class.”

She left and Auruo was still sitting there in shock. While sitting there he momentarily passed out. When he regained consciousness he got up and looked out the window. “Death Kingdom. What is it you are doing here? I will find out and put a stop to it."

Chapter 14: Light at the End of Darkness

At an abandoned lot the orphanage stood there alone. Petra Moon was hidden behind some rubble that lay there. Isabel Mars and Zoë Mercury were hidden at different locations. Petra Moon was nervous. She trusted Auruo Mask as he had saved her life many times. But this was different. She wasn’t sure if his plan would work and if it did what it would mean for Myla. Suddenly the doors to the orphanage burst open. Myla was walking out with holding hands with her doll. Myla looked poorly. Petra Moon wanted to go to her straight away but had to resist to. They had all agreed to follow Auruo Mask’s plan. No matter how painful it was for them.

The doll was floating around emitting a strong dark aura. Suddenly in a deep darkened voice it spoke out. "I know you are out there. Reveal yourself." Petra Moon was nervous but didn't move. She continued to watch from her position as Auruo Mask walked out from the shadows and appeared before Myla and the doll. "Who are you? Where are the girls?" Auruo Mask just held out a rose and smelt it.

"My apologies. They will arrive later. For now I thought I will try to do something." The doll just stared at him and then looked round. It floated down in front of Myla who then grabbed hold of her. She then spoke out very weakly. "Please leave. I'm going to be reunited with my Mummy and Daddy." Auruo Mask showed no reaction. He just looked at his rose. "You know a rose comes in many colours. The red rose shines brightest when accompanied by a beautiful sight. The moonlight is such a sight." Myla looks at him confused. "If given to another it's a sign of love and trust. Just like your doll. However if the colour is tarnished then the meaning of it is not the same."

Myla looked at him and then at the doll. She grasped onto her doll harder. "No. She was given to me to protect me. She won't hurt me." "Then how about all your friends who are in pain behind you?!" He tosses the rose which hits the door. It opens revealing the other children. Myla looked inside and sees them all unconscious. Even the teachers were unconscious. Myla turned away releasing the doll and placing her hands over her head in shock. "Nooo, No, No, No!"

The doll floated towards her and tried to talk to her. "Myla ignore him. Ignore him like all the others." Myla couldn't hear her. Auruo Mask quickly threw another rose towards the doll. She quickly dodged it and moved away from Myla. Isabel Mars and Zoë Mercury quickly came out of their spots and flanked the doll preventing it returning to Myla. Petra Moon went up to Myla who was still in shock.

"Myla calm down." Petra Moon had her hands on Myla's shoulder trying to calm her. The doll saw this but was unable to get to Myla. Furious it's dark powers grew larger and larger surrounding it. Soon it grew larger. Zoë Mercury and Isabel Mars quickly jumped out of the way of the growing titan. When it was full size it was quite intimidating. But it didn't deter the girls determination. Zoë Mercury and Isabel Mars were ready. They wanted to leave Myla to Petra Moon. They quickly prepared to attack when suddenly several smaller Titans appear. They surround the girls.

"Zoë Mercury what do we do?" Zoë Mercury quickly scanned the Titans to see if it was an illusion. "We are in quite a bit of trouble. These Titans are as real as others. We need to get rid of them quick." Isabel Mars nodded and started to attack the Titans that surrounded them. While they were trying to take them out the Doll Titan started to head towards Petra Moon and Myla. Auruo Mask intercepted to stop it but it just ignored him and threw a punch towards him. He jumped out way but the force of the attack threw him back. The Titan reached Petra Moon and Myla.

Petra Moon noticed the Doll Titan heading towards them and quickly got in front of Myla to protect her. "I won't let you harm her any more then you have." The Titan stopped and stared at her. Suddenly beside her an orb appeared. On the orb Kení appeared. "Petra Moon. I thank you for looking after the girl. But I'm afraid I must ask you to leave her alone now." Petra Moon stared at him and reached for her tiara. "I won't leave her alone. Moon Tiara, Slash!" In an instance she threw at tiara straight at the Titan.

The Titan didn't dodge. It reached upwards and a black disc formed and launched it straight at Petra Moon's tiara. Both collided and soon Petra Moon's tiara ran out of power and collapsed as the black disc headed straight at Petra Moon. Petra Moon tried to grab Myla as she tried to dodge but never had a chance to and had to dodge without her. As she was separated from Myla the Doll Titan approached her. As she got near her she quickly moved her head to the side. As she did an arrow passed by her.

Isabel Mars was in front of a group of defeated Titans staring at the Doll Titan with anger. "She said to leave her alone." The doll Titan turned towards Isabel Mars and held one hand out pointing at Isabel Mars. Suddenly a dark energy arrow flew towards her. Isabel Mars dodged and Zoë Mercury jumped up above the the arrow with her Aqua blade ready to strike. The Titan noticed this and a dark energy blade was suddenly blocking Zoë Mercury's and eventually overpowering it causing Zoë Mercury to fall back.

Kení watching all this from the orb was just laughing. "I'm so sorry. This titan is like you girls. A guardian but unlike you she is one for darkness and destruction. She can do what you can but better." The girls look at him disgusted. All three of them were no where near Myla. The doll Titan picks her up and Myla looks at her in fear. "Don't fear Myla. You done well." Myla looks at Kení. She looked at him curiously. "Are you the one reuniting me to my mummy and daddy?" Kení laughed and Myla looked at him scared. Suddenly she started to scream in pain as dark energy started pouring out of her into the Titan. Allowing it to grow. "I shall reunite you. In the afterlife."

As the Titan absorbs her energy Petra Moon looks on in despair. She stands up but suddenly hundreds of smaller Titans surround her. "Oh don't think I forgot about you. Petra Moon I shall rid the world of you first and then the others." His dark voice echoed through the area as the smaller Titans moved in closer making no room for escape surrounding her. Zoë Mercury and Isabel Mars tried to rush over but the doll Titan fired arrows at them while absorbing energy. They were unable to help Petra Moon.

Away from the main battle Auruo Mask was just managing to get to his feet. The attack did more damage then he thought it would. He saw Petra Moon was in danger. He wanted to hurry over but he was hurt. He moved as quick as he could but he could see the smaller titans clambering all over each other. He fell to his knees. He was too late now. Nothing could save her. He punched the ground in frustration. Suddenly among the smaller titans a bright light started to shine out. He looked on in shock and suddenly all the smaller titans blew away. Few of them hit the Doll Titan as they all became dust.

As Auruo Mask looked up he saw Petra Moon standing basked in light unharmed. The Doll Titan looked at her and saw that Petra Moon was preparing to launch her tiara. “I give you one chance. Let the girl go.” The titan refused to listen and started to form a dark disk again. Petra Moon sighed and looked at the Titan with a determined look. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” She grabbed her tiara and it became the disc. “Moon Tiara.” The Titan refused to wait for Petra Moon to launch her tiara and launched it. Petra Moon launched hers at the Dark disc. The discs hit each other and looked like the dark disc was about to over power hers again. Suddenly Petra Moon’s disc split causing the Dark disc to suddenly change direction missing Petra Moon. “Moon Tiara, Split!” The disc became multiple different discs and headed towards the titan. It launched arrows at them but the broke through them. Petra Moon looked at the Titan and looked sad. “I’m sorry Myla. PIERCE!” The discs all surround the Titan and before it can react pierce it in multiple areas causing it to cry out in pain.

It slowly shrunk as it lost power. Myla was in its hand as it shrunk and as the hand was too small she fell. Petra Moon rushed over and caught her as the titan shrunk back to its doll form and then disintegrated. Myla started to regain colour and looked better. She was unconscious due to the energy drain but Petra Moon was happy. Zoë Mercury and Isabel Mars rushed over to Petra Moon and Myla. “Petra Moon. I am so glad you ok.” Petra Moon smiled at Isabel Mars. “I’m ok Isab..” Soon she collapsed. This worried Zoë Mercury and Isabel Mars. Isabel Mars picked up Myla from her and Zoë Mercury scanned her. As she was doing it Auruo Mask walked over and picked her up. Both girls were shocked with this and told him to put her down. “Don’t worry. See.” He lowered her a bit and they noticed she was sleeping. “She must be exhausted. All the worrying and the fight itself must of been a lot for her.” Both girls breathed a sigh of relief. While carrying Petra Moon he started to walk away.

“I will take her to a place she can rest for a while. I will return soon.” Zoë Mercury skilled and shook her head. It’s ok. Looks like the dark energy surrounding the place is disappearing and looks like its returning to normal.” Auruo Mask looked round and noticed the building and all the people inside started to glow and soon the building lifted up slowly. “He looked at Zoë Mercury and nodded. “Ok then. Till next time.” He didn’t disappear in usual style just walked away with Petra Moon. Isabel Mars walked up to Zoë Mercury. “You sure this was a good idea? We could of her.” Zoë Mercury smiled. “It’s ok. He is always helping us. I think even though he can’t do that much he wants to help us still.” Isabel Mars looked at Zoë Mercury and smiled and she turned to look at Auruo Mask. “Yeah I guess you are right.”

At a field where he first met Petra Moon, Auruo Mask lay Petra Moon next to a tree letting her rest. “It’s amazing. No matter the situation you always find a way out overcoming any obstacle. I admire that about you and hope you never change.” As the moonlight shone on her he could help but stare at her. He was entranced by her beauty as this was first time he got to see her at a peaceful state. He moved some hair which was covering her face and leant in and kissed her as she slept. As he did she started to stir a little. When she woke up she was alone in the field. She was confused as why she was there but soon noticed a rose beside her. She smiled as she smelt the rose. As she did she put her hands to her lips. “I wonder. Did that really happen or was it a dream.” She smiled as she thought about it.

Few weekss later Petra, Zoë and Isabel returned to the orphanage. It seems many of them have no recollection of what happened. As they entered they noticed Myla playing with some of the other children. When she noticed Petra she ran over. Petra knelt down and as she did Myla jumped at her hugging her. “Petra you came.” Petra smiled." Of course I would. When I heard you were being adopted I had to see you again.” Myla smiled and pointed at some adults who were with some of the helpers. “They saw me few weeks ago and wanted to help me. But I had the bad phase so it took a while longer. Petra smiled. During the time Myla had opened up. She remembered very little of what happened but knew that it was her wish to be reunited with her parents which led her down a bad path. Petra had been over to see her few times. She missed her doll but was ok without it after a while.

The adults adopting Myla came up to her. She held the mans hand as they walked off. Petra got up and rushed over. “Sorry please wait.” They stopped and Myla looked confused. Petra reached into her bag. “I got something to keep you happy.” She brought out a doll but this time designed like Petra Moon. “I know its not like Sailor Moon but hopefully this will be just as good.” Myla looked at it and then hugged Petra again before taking the doll. “Thank you. I keep it safe and always remember to be brave and happy.” She grabbed the hands of both her parents and walked out of the orphanage heading to her new home.

Chapter 13: A Darkness Grows

In the Dark Kingdom, Kení was before the King. His last mission was not a total success. He was expecting a dressing down but when the King looked at him he was not radiating an aura of rage. If anything he seemed worryingly calm. Bertolt could also tell this. He was further behind Kení. He decided to speak up first. “My lord Kení failed in his task…” The King looked straight at Bertolt who quickly looked down and stayed quiet. With Bertolt silenced he stood up. “Indeed you did not defeat those pesky scouts but the energy you salvaged was of such quality it made up for the fact you were defeated. Kení was pleased to hear this but refused to let it get to him. He knew one mistake is all it would take to earn King Fritz’s wrath.

“Tell me Kení what is your plan this time?” Kení looked at the king with respect and spoke confidently. “My lord this time I am exploiting the fear of loneliness. This girl recently made an orphan, experience extreme levels of loneliness and doesn’t want to be alone. With little subtle suggestion her loneliness is slowly growing to point it where it will be rich enough to drain.” King Fritz smiled with pleasure of the news. “As for the scouts they will learn that their knowledge of titans is lacking and that will be their downfall.” King Fritz stood and turned away. “You better succeed Kení. Energy richness won’t always save you.” Kení bowed his head and left the room.

Back at the orphanage Petra had come back for another visit. Many of the children were happy as they enjoyed the time when the girls were last there and when they heard the others would be coming later they were even more excited. Petra looked round and couldn’t find Myla. Concerned Petra asked a young girl if she had seen her. “Myla has been hiding. She says she don’t want anyone to see her. All she wants is her parents who she will see soon." Petra grew really concerned from this and decided best to leave Myla for now, as she didn’t want to worry the other kids. When the others came Luna was with them. Petra was glad to see her. Momo went up to Luna. She really wanted to stroke her. Petra laughed as many of the children also joined Momo in wanting to stroke Luna before Momo picked up Luna and cuddled her. Zoë and Isabel came up to Petra. Zoë was concerned. “Has there been a titan sighting?” Petra shook her head.

She waited till the children were playing with the others to tell Zoë and Isabel what she was concerned about. “Thinking back to what the Dark Kingdom is after it makes sense.” Zoë and Isabel were shocked. Luna had her eyes closed. She opened them with a serious look. “We have to tray this as a serious incident to happen if your worst fears are true.” All the girls nodded. Isabel lent back a bit. “I still can’t believe the creep would go that far just to get fear energy.” Both Zoë and Petra nodded. “Its a disgrace. The poor girl is grieving for her parents and he takes advantage of it.” Petra looked down sad. She was really worried about Myla. Luna noticed this and went up to her. “Don’t worry. We will make sure nothing happens to her.” Petra looked at Luna and then at Zoë and Isabel who were smiling and nodding as well. Petra smiled back and nodded. “Your right. We won’t let her down.”

That evening the girls were getting ready to leave. They had been searching for Myla throughout the day to no avail. Petra was sad she couldn't find her but was determined to help her. As they all were going home they bumped into Petra's dad. "Oh Petra. I see the gang with you plus some new friends." Zoë and Isabel stepped forward. "Hello. I am Zoë Hagne. I'm in year up from Petra but we became friends after she joined my club." "I'm Isabel. I just recently moved here. Petra has helped me settle in." Petra's dad smiled. That's great to hear. I hope you continue to be friends with her." Petra was slightly embarrassed. "What you doing here dad?" "It seems there was a problem with some stuff at work. I'm just heading there to sort it out. I'm going to be out till late." Petra smiled. "That's ok. I was going to let you know I was going to be out late." Petra's dad raised an eyebrow. She quickly got embarrassed. "No dad. I was going to go to Isabel's place. Go over some homework." As soon as Petra mentioned homework Jel jumped right into the conversation. "Ooh let me come. I need some help." Polly-Ann grabbed her from collar and dragged her away.

Petra's dad didn't know what to make of all this but just smiled. "Well I guess that's alright. Just don't stay out too late." Petra nodded as her dad walked away. Momo walked towards Polly-Ann who was still dragging away Jen who was still eager to work on homework with Isabel and Petra. "Well we are going to part here. See you tomorrow?" Petra nodded. "Yeah. See you tomorrow!" As Momo and Polly-Ann, with Jel in tow walked off Isabel looked at Petra confused.

"We never agreed to meet up at my place." "I know. I can't forget about Myla. I want to go back tonight." Luna jumped out of Petra's bag and looked at her. "You sure about this?" Petra looked at Luna worryingly. She was surprised when Zoë suddenly place her hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry. I'm with her. This is something we need to check on." Isabel nodded and stood besides them. "How can we talk about saving the earth if we fail one small girl." Luna smiled. "Ok then. Let's go."

Back at the orphanage the girls arrive, as it gets dark. They look around and everything looks nice and quiet. They looked at the window and notice that everyone in there is on the floor unconscious. The girls were shocked. Isabel noticed something else in the room. "Petra the girl over there. Is that Myla?" Petra looked where Isabel was looking and noticed a girl holding a girl. She gasped as the girl turned around and she was extremely pale. It looked like she had not eaten in days and was slowly dying. Petra couldn't bear to see her like that and started to rush towards the entrance.

Luna rushed ahead and stopped in between Petra and the door. "Move Luna. I need to go to her." "I can't move Petra. If you go in there you will be in trouble." "I don't care. I need to help her." "PETRA!" Petra was shocked by Luna's raised voice. She collapsed to her knees crying. "She's lonely. I really want to help her." Luna walked up to her. "I know. I'm not saying not to help her. Just do it smartly." Zoë and Isabel stood behind Petra smiling. Both held their pens out. Petra smiled and nodded. "Ok girls lets do this. Moon Power, Freedom!" "Mercury Power, Surge!" "Mars Power, Erupt!"

The girls transformed into their sailor soldier forms and Petra Moon kicked the door open. Once the door is open they get a surprise. The doll is floating in the air. The doll turns to face them. It then floats next to Myla holding her hand. A voice starts coming from the doll. "Be careful Myla. They are evil." Petra Moon stepped forward calmly and patiently. "Don't be scared. We are not evil. We want to help you." The doll spoke again. "Help? You don't want to help her. You just want to keep her from happiness." Petra was shocked at all this. "That's not true. Myla we can help you." "Can you reunite her with her parents?"

Petra shook her head with sadness. "We can't but we can ensure you can live happily even if they are not around." Myla looked at the doll and then at Petra Moon. She then takes a step back away from Petra Moon. "I want my mummy and daddy." The doll let off a dark and evil laugh. Suddenly dark energy blew around the room. Petra Moon tried to hang on but was eventually blown out along with Zoë Mercury and Isabel Mars.

The doors slammed shut and the suddenly the whole building started to levitate and fly away. Petra Moon looked on in despair. Zoë Mercury came up to her. "Don't give up. We will save her." Petra Moon nodded. "Yeah. We need to break her from the evil." Isabel watched the building fly off. "So how do we save her? That doll won't let us get near her." "Then how about I help you with that?" The girls turn around in surprise and standing in the tree was Auruo Mask. "I may know how to stop that doll allowing you to save her.”

Chapter 12: A Girl and her Doll

It was a chilly day. School had taken a break for the holidays. Before it ended Polly-Ann convinced Petra to help at a local orphanage to give the kids a reason to smile this holidays. Petra happy to help convinced Zoë and Isabel to help as well. They were concerned about the threat of Kení and his new Titans but they couldn't stay at home worrying about it.

While walking there Petra met up with Polly-Ann, Momo, Zoë and Isabel. As she got closer she noticed Polly-Ann was agitated and angry. "Hi. Um Polly-Ann you ok?" Polly -Ann looked at her and smiled but didn't say anything. She just a started walking ahead. Confused Petra looked at Momo. Momo just sighed. "Jel never appeared and isn't answering her mobile."

Petra just sighed and followed Polly-Ann. Zoë and Isabel came up to Petra as Momo went ahead to try and calm Polly-Ann down. Isabel was looking bit worried. "Say is this really a good idea? Shouldn't we be ready in case the Dark Kingdom attack?" Petra just smiled. "We could but then we might go crazy with the waiting. Besides this is a good cause. Also good chance to have some fun." As she said that Polly-Ann let out an annoyed scream. "That's if Polly-Ann doesn't snap."

As they reached the orphanage Polly-Ann was mumbling how much Jel was in trouble. Momo had been trying her best throughout the journey there but it didn't work. As they reached the door they heard some children playing around the back. They go to check it out. There they saw few children playing with a tall girl. When the girl turned round they noticed it was Jel. Polly-Ann's face was in shock. She was convinced that Jel had bailed on it. Jel noticed the girls arrive and ran up to them.

"Hey. What took you so long?" Polly-Ann's face soon turned back to anger. Momo quickly stepped between the two. Petra decided she would intermediate. She was beaten though by Isabel. "Us? We were waiting for you." Jel looked confused and then realised. "Ohh. Didn't Polly-Ann get my message?" Polly-Ann was still looking angry. Jel could tell and looked at her mobile. She soon noticed it was dead. "Umm maybe my battery died as message was sending. My bad." Petra was chuckling as did Isabel and Zoë. Momo finally managed to calm Polly-Ann down and they all introduced themselves to the staff and started playing with the kids.

While playing with some kids Petra noticed a girl with black hair sitting in a corner with a doll all alone. Curious she went up to her. "Hi there. You not going to play?" The girl just shook her head. Petra was bit worried and decided to talk a bit more with her. She noticed the doll. It looked similar to her as Petra Moon but with blond hair and blue eyes. "That's a nice looking doll. Is it yours?" The girl just nodded and held onto the doll tight. Worried Petra decided to find out more about her. She found one of the staff and asked about the girl. "Oh her. That's Myla. She's doesn't really interact much with the children poor girl." "Why not?" "The staff member looked at her with sad eyes. "She's only been here a few weeks. She just lost  her parents in an accident." Petra looked at her sad. She kinda knew how she felt having lost her mother at a young age.

She decided to try and cheer her up a little. She went up and sat next to her. "Hello again Myla. You mind if I sit here?" Myla looked at her and and then just focused on her doll again while shaking her head. Petra smiled and just sat there. She didn't say anything for few minutes. She then spoke very softly. "It's never easy losing a parent let alone both of them." The girl didn't react but Petra didn't mind. She just smiled softly. "I don't remember much of my mum. I was young when she left me. A drunken driver didn't pay attention to what he was doing."

Petra had stopped looking at Myla as she started telling the story. She soon felt a hand on her arm. It was Myla he was looking at her. Petra smiled and placed her hand on hers. "I was lucky. I still had my dad. You were not so lucky were you?" She expected her to shake her head but Myla stopped looking at her and then spoke. "No." Petra smiled softly and the started to hug her. "It's tough I know. But I think if you make friends it will help you a bit." Myla placed her head in Petra's chest and cried a little. Petra didn't stop her just let her. After few minutes she noticed Myla had stopped crying and was looking at her.

Her eyes were red due to the tears. Her eyes still held sadness. She spoke softly with sadness in her voice. "Did it hurt?" Petra looked at her and smiled a warm smile. "It hurt a lot. Many times I just wanted to be alone." She looked away and saw Jel, Polly-Ann and Momo with the children playing. "But I had some good friends. Friends who helped me out." She looked back at Myla and suddenly was looking face to face with the doll.

"This is my friend. My mum gave her to me. Her name is Sailor Moon. Mum said if I ever felt sad or lonely she help me. But she's not doing too well herself." Petra was confused by this but thought it was just a case that the memories Myla had of her mother were strong with her doll. She just smiled some more and got up. "Well hi there Sailor Moon. Say why don't you and Myla join me for a while? We can play for a while and maybe get some of the others to join in if you like." Myla turned Sailor Moon so she was facing her and soon smiled. She looked at Petra and nodded enthusiastically. She got up and while carrying her doll she joined Petra as the walked outside to play.

Later that day it was getting dark. It was time for the girls to leave. The children were sad to see them leaving. Myla was holding on to Petra. "Please don't leave." Petra could tell Myla was scared. She didn't blame her after they just became friends. She knelt down and placed he her on her shoulders. "I'm sorry. I have to go home to my dad now. Otherwise he is going to worry about me." Myla looked at her sad but shook her head and then smiled. "I'm sorry." Petra smiled and hugged her. "Don't be. Listen Myla everyone here are friendly. If you need someone to talk to give them a chance. They might not understand your pain but they might help you." Myla looked at her and nodded her head. "I will. But Sailor Moon will help me. I was told she has strength to let me be close to my parents." Petra found this strange. She wanted to ask her more but the others were getting ready to leave. She decided to save it for another time. She gave Myla a goodbye hug and promised to see her again.

As she got home Petra was worried about Myla. Some of the stuff she was saying really stuck to her. After dinner she lay down on her bed thinking. Luna noticed this and came up to her. "Everything ok?" "I'm not sure Luna. I just have a bad feeling about something." Luna nuzzled up to him and Petra smiled gently as she sat up, picked Luna up onto her lap and stroked her.

At the orphanage Myla was asleep while cuddling her Sailor Moon doll. A dark figure hovered around her and placed a hand on the doll. A red mark appeared on the doll's forehead. While doing this Myla stirred and sat up. The dark figure disappeared. In a different location surrounded by star Kení stood in front of an image of Myla and her doll. He had a dark grin on his face. He spoke out loud in a dark but soft voice. "Loneliness is a tough thing for you. But stay strong. I promise. You shall see your parents soon." As if she could hear this Myla in her sleep smiled and nodded.
