Soo, I’ve recently adopted a cat. I’m a cat mom now. Her name is Bella and she is 8 months old. Young enough to be wild but old enough to know how to do things on her own. She’s quiet a catch and we are in love with her.
I wanted to share my experience on adopting a pet through a pet shelter. It is a hard time to think about adopting an animal because many of us have lost our jobs or have been going through a financial hardship during this pandemic. I understand, and however me and my boyfriend decided to adopt. We wanted a pet in my house. We have a dog, my dog, Benji with us but sometimes he spends his days with my parents at their house. They love him and want him to visit them too. We wanted our own pet. We also wanted to come to a house and feel a little animal welcoming us. I did not know how to take care of a cat. I’ve been raised with many pets before, but never a cat. At a young age, I had a turtle, fish, dog, hamster and parrots. We decided to ask his neighbor who had a street cat name midnight. We almost took him home, but one day we went to look for him and could not find him. He was a street cat but he knew my boyfriend. So I decided to look on humane society and see if they were still doing adoptions. During such a hard time, the poor animals are going through a hard time in the shelters too.
At humane society, I searched online and saw two I liked and sent them an application. The application was checked by one of the members and within a few hours that same day, they called me! I was soo excited. She told me to come in for an appointment during the day. Unfortunately, my boyfriend could not make it but I went anyways. I went alone and facetime him during the meet. We were happy with her! She was so playful, cute and curious. I wanted a younger cat rather than an older cat. The shelter had many of them old and young! We knew what color and how we wanted the cat. It only took 15 mins for us to decide for sure we wanted her. It was a match!
They allowed me time with her alone and left me at the room to decide. Once i decided, they would process her and see if she was ready to go home. So she was ready! All she needed is her surgery. Let me tell you, not many places will sell you a pet spayed or fixed. Only shelters would do this. So the Humane Society was so nice during the whole process. They wanted the cat to go with enough things needed.
-A microchip already installed.
-250 credit for medicine (If needed)
SO how MANY places WOULD DO THIS? I was so thankful!!!! :) The next day they prepared her and called me to pick her up and take her home. We got her paperwork and paid them only 30$ fee. Every pet is different prices depending on their age. The younger they are, the more they cost. They also sent you home with a free kit to try snack from a company called Chewy. But guys I can recommend humane society! They are great! If you are thinking of adopting, instead of buying it from a friend or someone else. Adopt these animals. They are alone, and they don’t have much options. The shelters are crowded and have thousands of animals who don’t get adopted yearly. Fortunately, this shelter where Bella came from does not put animals down but most have to! Chose this before choosing a store.
