1. If you could change your name to anything what would it be and why? Or why do like the name you have? (Or answer both) I like my name because it’s not too common but it’s easy to spell and pronounce, and because it’s a feminine-coded name but holly trees are masculine symbols. Also, holly represents faith and protection. I’d change my name to something more gender-neutral or masculine, with personal meaning, though I’m not sure what. 2. Tell me about a day in your life you wouldn’t think you’d live through. A little over a year ago a good friend of mine came close to committing suicide, and texted me through it. I was more scared than I’ve ever been, and furious at myself for not being able to help more. It was a lot of stress that didn’t ease up for a long, long time. It wasn’t so much that I thought I wouldn’t live through it, but I just kept thinking, “this can’t be real, this can’t be happening, I’m going to wake up and everything will be OK again,“ over and over for hours, which obviously got a bit exhausting. 3. What do you love about your family? We get each other. We’re all weird in the same way. I’m also forever grateful to my parents for treating me like a human being on their level, especially compared to the families of a lot of my friends. 4. Do you believe in magic? Why or why not? Yes. I think there’s a lot about the universe we don’t or maybe can’t understand–not all of it obeys our rules, not all of it is bound by what we believe about it. I think that the things we believe in, things that don’t exist outside our heads, are as real as anything else. 5. I don’t want to know your favorite song, but what song means the most to you? Right now “The Light Behind Your Eyes” by My Chemical Romance makes me cry every time I hear it, so I’m going with that. Alternatively, “Famous Last Words” also by My Chemical Romance, has always been really powerful for me, so maybe that. 6. What does the word home mean to you? Someplace or someone you can always come back to, no matter where you go or what you do. 7. What’s the most unkind thing you’ve ever done? What’s the kindest thing you’ve ever done? Most unkind: I gave my dad a really nasty letter when I was, like, 9 because I was mad at him. I still haven’t forgiven myself for that. Kindest: I helped a random mother in the airport get a car seat down to the parking garage because she had to carry her kid. That’s all that comes to mind? 8. Do you think people can change? Do you believe in second chances? Yes, I do. I think that given the right conditions anyone is capable of anything. 9. What’s your favorite part about your body? What’s your favorite part about your personality? Favorite body part is my arms, not sure why. Favorite personality part is that I’m aware of my faults and curious about exploring them, which makes me feel like I can trust myself and my perceptions. 10. Do you believe in soul mates? Why or why not? I don’t believe that there is one and only one person that perfectly completes you, because it’s a bit confining and an unrealistic standard to put on a relationship. I believe that there are some people who complement you, romantically or otherwise, better than others and encountering them is a kind of fate, a gift from the universe. 11. How would you define love? When spending time/having a connection with someone is worth making sacrifices of your own. When you can be genuinely, fully happy because someone else is–when their joy is your joy, period.
