Canon EOS 250D | 35mm | 1/50s | f/10 | ISO 100 Taken on 07/09/2020. Topping the ridge to the south of Castleton in the narrow, rocky Cave Dale, the evocative Peveril Castle has been so ravaged by the centuries that it almost looks like a crag itself. Constructed by William Peveril, William the Conqueror's son, the castle was used as a hunting lodge by Henry II, King John and Henry III. The crumbling ruins offer swooping views over the Hope Valley. But if you don't fancy the climb up, you can opt for a walk through this scenic gully called Cave Dale instead.
