reclaiming character designs from an old project ☕
This is a ton of fun to fiddle with. :D Q-tips are funny little paintbrushes. XD
OP handmade a set of willow-leaf curtains, hanging a piece of spring right by the window. The swallows are also hand-cut. They spin around when the wind blows in. (cr 星河理想+)
This whole project was heavily inspired by the work of Lina Shamoon/ Mirrors by Lina (website here, check out her very cool and much higher quality work). My spin on things is definitely not made as well as her stuff, but I'm still loving the effect.

MET GALA "Costume Art" Exhibition 2026 pls help me get out of debt donating to: ko-fi.com/fashionrunways or dinahlance-shop.fourthwall.com The idea, curator Andrew Bolton said, is “to reflect on your own lived experience, hopefully to create a connection, empathy, compassion towards each other.” Not only does this interactive element transform a visit to the museum into a small voyage of self discovery, but it is a bodily experience that cannot be replicated digitally. This at a time when humans are being replaced by machines and AI anxiety is pervasive. “The whole show is structured around a typology of bodies, and these are bodies that you see across the museum when you encounter artworks,” Bolton explained. “The simple thesis for the show really is the fact that the dressed body is the connecting thread throughout the entire museum.” What you won’t see anywhere else at the Met are mannequins of diverse body types modeled after named individuals, like those commissioned for “Costume Art.” And this is transformative in many ways. As the scholar Llewellyn Negrin notes in her catalog introduction, not only do mannequins project a beauty standard, but their “dimensions often dictate the sizes of the garments shown, and the garments’ sizes correspond to the idealized proportions of the preferred mannequins, resulting in a mutually reinforcing process that perpetuates the privileging of culturally esteemed body types.”
Found out I was short fabric on another project and decided I wasn’t going into town to pick it up, so I pulled a jelly roll out to keep myself busy until I went back to town.
Figured I do a quick quilt top, you know, just throw something together.
And then I made two blocks of the forty eight needed for this Harvest quilt and boy howdy.
Not a quick quilt two day top, this one LOL
The blocks look fantastic ofc.
And the quilt! She be gorgeous!
Love that fuck-off bright yellow I picked for the cornerstones, they’re perfect for this.
Thinking about quilting it in a blue thread, but we’ll see when I audition colours lol
So we have this bin of partially used bobbins for the long arm. And we only have so many bobbins of course.
I decided that since the quilt top was so colourful, I’d put plain flat black cotton the back and use up some of these bobbins, making the quilting on the back really stand out.
Holy shit did it work or what! I love it, of course LOL
I used a medium purple on the top so it would fade into the patchwork and not show up too much on the background. The quilting pattern is called Pink Lemonade and it is one of my favourite quilting patterns.
I didn’t have any left over border fabric, so I found a nice blue that matched with that print and made it my binding. I debated using purple, but couldn’t convince myself to do it.
The blue looks good though, from the front and the back.
This brought tears to my conservationist heart today.
The continued existence of these species is the legacy of so many people whose names we will never know--some of who never lived to see the impacts of their work.
When you count up the flaws of our species, you have to count the good things too--out of the many species throughout Earth's history that have caused the demise or endangerment of other species, we are the only one that tries to fix it out of our fascination and love for other life forms.
(Big thank you to the anonymous asker who sent this in!)
Earth Day reblog of this thing that made me cry.
And I'll add some other recent good conservation news.
•Green sea turtles are no longer endangered
•Giant pandas are no longer endangered
•Panamanian golden frogs were returned to the wild for the first time since they were wiped out by chytrid 17 years ago
•The Eastern humpback whale population has exceeded pre-whaling numbers and many other whale species are showing strong signs of recovery
•Salmon and bison have been returned to their former habitat in multiple parts of the US through dam removal, habitat restoration, and reintroduction
•The Western monarch migration was up 60% compared to last year
•Galapagos tortoises were reintroduced to Floreana for the first time in 180 years
•Attenborough's long beaked echidna was rediscovered after being though extinct for decades
•Five "lost" island bird species were documented by citizen scientist birders in 2025
Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die.

it turns out i really enjoy making educational posts about the comics making process and ways of thinking. here's another one featuring characters from my graphic novel in a very anachronistic art museum.

Wow, apparently the bellows were also colored to match the housing, and they came with accessories like matching compacts.
