Livestream Warmup - Redraw!
I found my first ever digital drawing of Dragonel (most likely from 1999 and drawn with a mouse), and decided to see what a difference that time makes. WHEW!!
Found some of my first digital artwork on my external drive and decided to redraw it! That’s... quite a difference..!
The Wayback Machine at webarchive.org has stored pages from the very first online community I was ever a part of - The Pokémon FanFiction Archives.
Many links are broken and most of the images and fanfics are gone, but…
GUYS.
I realize it all looks like a big blue screen of death, and sure, the site IS dead so that makes sense, but that PokéBall background - that yellow text - it’s all so plain and boring but to ME, it’s still such a… a weird sense of comfort.
I may not have had a ton of friends in middle and high school, but when those days got rough, I could always come home, and the PFFA would be there.
My land, the stories we shared! The debates, the flame wars over POKEMON, the RP battles with our chosen characters, all dubbed “Roomies” because we eventually declared the boards “The ASYLUM” and, and the hype with EACH new Pokémon episode and game and comic!
It’s where I met Mystic Vaporeon, who would become one of my dearest friends for years, and @bigredjake and Ry Senkari and Moogleborg and FireGriffin5 and ASK and Kiyone and Nidoprincess and Khisanth and Cruton and SO MANY MORE PEOPLE!
To put it in context - many of you find comfort and belonging and best friends here on Tumblr. Well, those screenshots of incomplete web pages were MY Tumblr.
I just HAD to share this with you. So you could all see what my first internet home was like! On the surface, sure, nothing special to look at, but man… I’m so glad to see these places again. <3

MV is one of my oldest and dearest friends. Although we don’t talk very much these days, I’m so proud of all she’s accomplished and the life she has built for herself! Her friendship and kindness helped me through many dark days, and she, along with the PFFA Asylum Inmates, inspired me to become “Ryuko”, and to share the kind of love and acceptance they shared with me.
Thank you for your friendship and the memories we will never leave behind! <3
