Lee and Kamui set the precedent for romantic relationships. They all start off not being able to comprehend the concept of romantic love, much less intimacy. Lee still says he can't comprehend love, despite his willingness to die for his boyfriend. But his blossoming relationship with Kamui guides Chrome and Noir.
Noir gave up on finding a partner because he feels as though he left his family to die, and his mother programmed him to believe he's unworthy of love. The idea of having a romantic relationship evaded Chrome because of his life as a Construct in an apocalyptic world.
But once they see how deeply in love Lee and Kamui are, the two of them carefully but happily approach the idea of being something more than friends. They're kind to each other. They're open, honest and sweet towards each other.
Noir and Chrome are just as much in love as Lee and Kamui. If a grump like Lee can be an incredibly sweet boyfriend, then Noir figures he can at least try to be one to Chrome.
Who confesses first? Chrome.
Who kisses first? Noir. Kisses Chrome for the first time during a battle, seeing a gravely wounded Chrome fall
Who's the most romantic? They're both equally clumsy doofs that dote on each other.
Lee, from first glance, has always appeared to be a cold, standoffish grump to those that aren't close to him. But his friends knew that wasn't the case. And now that he's deepening his bond with Kamui, he's actually blossoming as a chivalrous, selfless boyfriend.
Lee still has plenty of deadpan stares and sighs to provide Kamui with. But he's incredibly kind, thoughtful and romantic towards the other unit, despite claiming to know nothing about love. At times he'll hug Kamui without warning, and without saying anything. That alone conveys the depth of his feelings.
Lee tells the others that Kamui has 'opened me up to a world I never thought I'd see'. Kamui has 'taught me how to see the good in our world, when all I can see is the bad'. Just being near him reminds Lee to 'keep on believing in the world we're fighting for'.
It's difficult to tell who's the more poetic and romantic one: Chrome or Lee. Nanami, Lucia and Liv giddily enjoy listening to Lee and Kamui, and Chrome and Commandant Noir, in secret.
"Could you please teach me?" Chrome anxiously asks Lee, wanting to learn the Art of Being a Good Boyfriend. Since Lee's such a chivalrous boyfriend towards Kamui, Chrome figures it wouldn't hurt to ask him for advice.
Lee warmly gives it, urging Chrome to simply tell Noir 'how important he is to you'. 'Let him know of the impact he has made on your life'. They've become close friends through their mutual affection for Kamui, and also through Lee not wanting to ignore Chrome.
Chrome consults with Kamui too, putting a different spin on their mentor-pupil relationship. He and Noir strive to be the very best they can be for each other, barely able to compute love but wanting to learn as much as they can.
While Lee and Kamui quickly become physically affectionate, Noir and Chrome are a little shy about it and take forever to get past hand-holding. But every gesture and word they share is luminous with love that goes beyond words.
Noir not only consults with Lee and Kamui, but also watches Nanami's love dramas.

Panic is a thunderstorm that tears through Gray Raven and Nanami. Watanabe eyes the unfolding scene with feverish curiosity and confusion, frantically trying to figure out where the Strike Hawk Operator went. Lee aims a gun at the newcomer’s head, visibly upset, but is promptly warned by that same figure: ‘Go ahead. Shoot. If you’re no longer interested in seeing my host, that is’.
“Who in the fuckin’ Hell are you, and where is my lil’ brother?”
Commandant Noir demands, while Lucia lands a comforting hand on an incensed Lee’s shoulder. The figure clad in the moon’s darkness initially gives them no answers: instead, he promptly shoves Liv out of harm’s way and engages the behemoth everyone else momentarily forgot about.
A million things happen at once, with the mystery unit ordering everyone else to stay back, Commandant Noir protectively placing himself in front of the others, and the strange figure clashing with the behemoth.
The battle comes to an end. Lee and Lucia demand an explanation from the stranger, the former increasingly furious, the latter increasingly concerned. The figure sheds very little light on Kamui’s disappearance, telling them: ‘My host is sleeping. From what I can see, you’d all be better off if my host were to simply expire. He was clearly much too weak to protect any of you’.
A trembling, livid Lee aims his gun at the stranger’s forehead, but does not shoot. Liv and Lucia lower his arm, both of them exuding the deepest concern for their technician and the missing Kamui. “What’s your deal, anyway?” Nanami demands, stepping towards the mysterious figure.
”What have you done with our friend? You took Kamui away from us, creep, and Nanami is NOT pleased!”
The mystery figure’s eyes cut into all of them, mercurial blades ablaze with poison. “It is as I said before. My host sleeps within me, and will not awaken until these threats subside. He is much too weak to confront the battles that await this world, so I stand in his place."
"Let it be known that my host IS expendable, though, and at any time I may take away everything my host owns-including his life. If I can protect this world in his place, it is here I will remain.”
The figure then bolts off into the deeper, darker recesses of Hell. Lee orders him to wait, brandishing his gun, but is held back by Commandant Noir and Watanabe. “We’ve got to regroup,” Watanabe urges him.
“Rushing into battle without seeing the battlefield will only worsen the situation! If we’re going to have any chance of rescuing this errant Operator of yours, we’ve got to gather more information on what we’re dealing with!”
