Nuclear family ||one-shot
Betty sighed, trying her best to ignore the soldiers at her back. It had been a part of the deal they made. Betty came over for dinner once a week and she did not have to live on base. Not that, that stopped him from checking in on her every 20 minutes. She sighed softly, gently tugging her light blue dress down. It was another one if his "rules". She was not allowed to wear pants or heels. It was not proper dinner attire for the retired buffoon.
He probably thought the skirt would slow her down if she tried to run, the flats were just a way to make her seem “pure”. She felt her stomach twist tighter as she neared his quarters. The other was screaming in rage inside of her. It was odd to feel the other so prominently. Their merging was moving along quickly, so only intense emotions caused there to be a separation. Like one track skipped slightly ahead of the other. Her hand paused on the door handle. She could probably take on the guards behind her, but at what cost. Betty bit her lip before soldiering on inside. It was a dreaded night of the week, but she could survive. Just let him do the talking and eat as fast as possible.
"Elizabeth, my child, it is so good to see you again. Your dress just looks lovely. I am so glad you took my suggestion. It isn't proper of a woman of class to be wearing jeans." She felt her skin crawl at his smile. When his hand gripped her shoulder, she repressed the urge to shutter. It was like feeling Loki in her mind all over again. Just slightly more painful, what with his fingers digging in. "General Ross, my name is Betty. Elizabeth is the reason I'm here at all." Betty grimaced and took her customary seat, wrinkling her nose at the Brussel sprouts on her plate. Great, more unpleasant things to go with this evening. Had she not stated enough that she was not one for his ideal tradition meal. Pizza with a good salad would be preferred over the fried chicken and Brussel sprouts that sat on her plate.
"Your name is Elizabeth, child. It is what your mother and I chose for you and it is what you will be called. Also, I have told you before you may refer to me as father or dad. As for that vermin inside of you," She looked at his excited face, hand moving over the butter knife beside her. "well I have found a way to rid you of that poison Hulk forced you to keep. See we have Dr. Strange in our custody right now and our scientist are positive he could simply remove that beast from inside you. Then we could set you up with a proper husband and be done with this nonsense. That way I know you would be safe and away from the silly nonsense these “heroes” are brainwashing you with."
Betty tensed, feeling a scream rose into her throat. If they had Stephen that would explain so much. She had half expected him to whisk everyone away until the dust had settled. " Well once again your scientist are wrong. Which doesn’t surprise me, you tend to rush things and that just leads to sloppy silence. You don’t think SHIELD asked him the same thing when I was first brought in? He cannot undo the other girl. He might have when Loki first combined us but our souls are too intertwined now. She is me and I am her. Give up your pipe dream and release Stephen. He has done nothing to you." She gripped the knife tighter and stood up. She could feel Elizabeth start to settle over her, fingers leaving behind her design. The General began to looked panicked at the blue symbols emerging from her. "Better yet, tell me where he is. I'll release him myself."
"I AM NOT YOUR ELIZABETH." She threw the knife in her hand, before her world started to go dark around the edges.
"Oh, Elizabeth I had hoped it would not come to this. I only want the best for you my child. I love you so and you remind me so much of your mother. You're going to a better place though, until we find your cure." She swatted weakly at the hand on her head before she went limp.
Betty woke up, groaning slightly as she did. Her head hurt and so did her arm? She glanced around the room, yawning as she did. What had happened? She did not drink last night. Her husband would have never let her. Especially with their little one on the way. Perhaps she had pushed too hard yesterday on the farm?
"Ah, love, you're awake. I thought you would sleep all day."
She smiled at the man in the doorway, reaching out with one hand. "Why would I sleep all day when I could spend it with you, Matthew? After all, you’re my one true love.”
