it’s syrian independence day :]
filled out my own (colonial era) relationship chart. was pretty fun!
what 😁 are you doing to syria
palestine’s been distancing herself from him and she’s less and less open every time he seeks her out and it’s so unfair because everyone else gets to have her and he doesn’t. he just wants something even a little bit similar to what they used to have and is that so wrong? does it matter that iran isn’t the same, will never be the same? cause he’ll never be willing to hurt him the way syria wants him to? cause syria will never have that quiet sort of understanding that they’ve always had, with him?
syria’s scared of him, in a way. syria knows so little about him while telling him just about everything he wants to know about syria. iran’s so indulgent for so long, even with his own hard limits. so willing to push boundaries, till syria’s not sure he ever really spoke out against one thing or another in the first place. even when iran tells him to tell him to stop, syria doesn’t — because how could he ever stand to refuse her him?
isn’t it so wonderful, to find someone who fulfils your needs so well—no matter how rotten those needs may be? syria’s overjoyed with him; manic, really. it’s everything he’d wished for and more. he loves iran—or the image of him, what he reminds him of—enough to be sick with it, enough to let himself die over it.
iran will never be enough; iran will always be too much. syria doesn’t know how to reciprocate except with accepting whatever it is he wants to do—be it necessary or not. it never escalates too much, never goes far enough that syria can’t take it or can’t look at him the same. iran knows their limits. he knows that syria will cede just about anything for him to let him stay by his side.
iran thinks syria wants him. syria knows he needs him. who else does he have? who else will treat him like this?

This so funny to me imagine Ismail going like:
Boy, become shia
Boy, become shia
Boy, become shia
Boy, become shia
Boy, become shia
Boy, become shia now
N
Boy, you want to become shia
I’M ACTUALLY SOBBUNG yeah that’s basically it 💖
