I’m bored so here’s all the cars that I think rainbow 6 operators will drive solely based on vibes.

Some of this is based on stuff me and my BF came up with a while ago.

First off some characters have canonical vehicles so they won’t be considered except for Mozzie and he would drive a big family van when not using his motorcycle.

Doc:

He would drive some sort of BMW from the mid 90s. Because he has money, he would do a ton of upkeep and have the same car forever, but bought it new the year it came out.

He would never let anyone accept a select few people (Monty, lion, jager, maybe bandit) drive it and the car would always be absolutely spotless. It would be a fancy BMW sports car something like this:

Thermite:

In my mind, he drives two different vehicles. One is a work vehicle that he drives when doing rainbow or FBI business. The other is his personal vehicle that he leaves at home in Texas.

The work vehicle would be something like a Nissan versa or a Hyundai Elantra or some other similar car.

His personal car, would be an old janky Ford pickup truck.

Tachanka:

Like everything else about Sasha his car is old and Soviet. The entire interior lining is absolutely bedazzled with Russian Orthodox icons to the point where if he got in an accident, the flying projectile would be the most dangerous part.

The bottom would be rusted out and have a panel screwed on, the chairs have all been reupholstered in some sort of strange fabric. It’s just odd and eclectic like him and probably looks something like this:

Maestro:

This one is mostly for giggles, but imagining a large Italian man driving this car is very funny to me. It also does make sense with his background coming from a more disadvantage youth he wouldn’t drive something super new and this car is old and reliable and Italian just like its owner. The A112 everyone:

I will add more as I think of them, but these four make the most sense in my mind.

I cannot explain, but the “let it all out, Shikamaru” scene is one of my Roman empires.

Jk, I can explain, and I will under the cut bc it’s probably gonna be looong

First:

Shikaku is literally the number 1 (biological) anime dad.

He is constantly encouraging his son to be a better man, to respect women, to have healthy emotional reactions.

I’m gonna assume he had a good mentor as well, for him to be this way.

Second:

The animators ate in that scene. They maxed out the animation to make everything so clear.

Shikamaru’s body language as he slowly folds in on himself. Shikaku’s stillness. The facial expressions from both.

The stiffness with which Shikamaru slams his shogi pieces down. Shikaku’s calmness even when the board game is thrown across the room.

Not animation, but even the moment of silence after Shikaku says “let it all out” is so important. It gives this feeling like a rug has just been ripped from under you and that’s what’s happened with Shikamaru.

Third:

The voice actors also ate.

Although I prefer the sub of this scene, I think the dub does a decent job too. Plus, my primary language is English so that does help some emotional factor to see the scene in my language rather read it.

In the sub though, shikamaru’s crying is much more raw and painful. It feels more pent up, like he has been holding it back for days.

Fourth: (and finally)

The dialogue.

Shikaku’s words are carefully chosen to slowly reveal what is truly bothering his son. First, ragging on his playing skills, then his decisions, and finally landing on Asuma’s death.

I think Shikaku knew exactly what the issue was and knew how to get to his son about it.

One little thing the sub does better is clever wording. Although I cannot speak for the original Japanese, the sub conversation seems a bit more clever.

At the very end, after Shikaku left the room and closed the door, he says “I’ll be here to pick up your pieces.” Speaking mainly about his son’s grief, but also alluding to the game they’d been playing.

The dub loses that line and he says something like “I’ll be here for you.”

So at the end of the day, I do like the sub better, but think there is value in the dub.

I might add more to this later, but this might be the most impactful scene in Naruto (at least to me).

Food for thought:

In ep 6 of band of brothers: Bastogne there is an interesting parallel.

First in the fox hole with Spina, Babe, and Gene:

In a moment of respite and seeming peace, Spina complains about not wanting to “play doctor” any more. He then asks what Gene thinks, but Gene doesn’t answer.

Second in Bastogne after the supply drop:

Again in a moment of respite and seeming peace Gene and Renee talk and Renee says she’s “rather work in a butchers shop” that continue treating wounded soldiers

The parallel of two medical personnel admitting to Gene that they don’t like their job is very interesting. What else is interesting is that neither Renee or Spina actually quit, despite what they say.

Also in both situations Gene brings up God and gifts He has given. Both situations also happen after an unfortunate death.

Just some interesting similarities.

Something that will always be so heart breaking, but so well done in the show Band of Brothers is the integration of the replacements and how they are sort of a gauge for how bad things are going.

More under the cut bc I’m not sure how long this will be.

Exhibit A: Babe Heffron

He’s one of the replacements who is almost immediately integrated bc of Wild Bill. Here’s how he looks in the episode Replacements:

Adorable, clean cut, happy

And then there’s him in the Last Patrol:

He looks years older, but it hasn’t actually been that long, only a few months.

And he’s not the only one.

Exhibit B: Antonio Garcia and Lester Hashey

While Hashey and Garcia aren’t in the Last Patrol (or quite as much of the show as Babe) for comparison, their contrast comes in Why We Fight.

Here’s them in Replacements:

And by Why We Fight, Perconte refers to O’Keefe as a “D*mn replacement” in front of them, bc at this point *they* are no longer replacements

Here Perconte treats Hashey and Garcia the same way he treats Luz and Martin, and they treat him the same. They are no longer children that Frank feels the need to ignore, they are brothers now.

None of this stuff is huge or mind blowing in the way its shown. Its subtle and quiet and in the background. And so many things can be inferred from it:

1. The stuff these men have gone through is so bad that they don’t consider non-taccoa men who were there as outsiders anymore

2. These replacements (several of them who were incredibly young) grew up over the course of a few months in the horrors of war

There are more, but I could go on for hours about the beautiful artistic work done in Band of Brothers (maybe I’ll make a post about how the Last Patrol is the Easy Company’s lowest point physically).

Point is, War is Hell, and the replacements in Band of Brothers are a subtle and artistic way the show communicates that to the audience.

Re watching Generation Kill and that bit where Ray is going on about if terrorist got laid they wouldn’t want it go to war reminded me of a funny conversation I had with a roommate.

I was playing a counter terrorist game and she was asking about it and eating ice cream. She said that if we gave all the terrorist ice cream they wouldn’t be bad anymore.

It’s the pg version of Ray’s idea
