Just watched Phantom.

It sucked but it shows some more of DD acting skills.

He was so straight faced as the role called for, no room for funny business.

DD is a big guy, WF is the same height yet DD manages to make himself so much bigger in this film. I

Also when you watch his other roles, afterwards, you can see he makes himself smaller a lot in them.

When he hit EH, Damn David!

Did anyone else notice there was a scene where they flipped his face! Like fr, there was a whole close up zoomed in section where his beauty mark was on the wrong side!

The movie sucked, but I think the actors did well with what they were given!!!

So I watched Phantom (2013)

Pros:

• one of the few Hollywood movies that depicts Russians in a positive light

• the actors didn't do the fake russian accent thing, which is greatly appreciated by everyone with ears

• the ending

• the cast is superb, with Ed Harris, David Duchovny and William Fichtner

• my monkey brain also very much enjoyed a bunch of sweat-covered ripped men in tight t-shirts

• also William Fichtner with an AK-47 is not something I knew I needed, but need it I did

Cons:

• Soviet soldiers in this movie are inexplicably America-loving. There is a difference between making the main characters reluctant to fire on an American sub without provocation and having them actively simp for American compassion, individuality and patriotism

• the writers probably meant it as a translation convention, but an Alexandr and a Grigori are called 'Alex' and 'Greg' rather than 'Sasha' and 'Grisha' which breaks the immersion for me a little. It's just a bit funny seeing a man in a Soviet uniform get referred to as 'Greg'.

(any Russians please correct me if you in fact do call Alexanders 'Alex')
