It’s the buildings that Nier finds most overwhelming. Towering tall above the ground like fingers of some great beat hidden below, threatening at any moment to clench and squeeze the life out of her. Hands wringing, she keeps her gaze downcast so she isn’t forced to think these grim thoughts. Completely lost in the city, Nier wanders around at random, hoping that the movement of her legs will keep her mind from wandering too much.
But even the thought of her thoughts is enough to induce a light panic in her heart, and so she walks more quickly with each passing moment. The sights and sounds and smells of the city are too much, and her eyes begin to brim with tears until a collision shakes them all lose and causes them to drip down her cheeks.
“O-oh, I’m so sorry...” she mumbles, bowing her head to the person she ran into. She scarcely even looks at them. “I-I wasn’t paying attention, I was just... I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
She turns away to continue her manic wandering through the city, but her feet catch against themselves and send her tumbling to the paved stone below. With her body newly aching from the impact, Nier simply lays there, chest gently heaving. It’s too much to handle, if only the Captain was here, they would know what to do.
