A random but interesting thing I found out about Ningguang through complete coincidence.... I was initially researching the new Eirene and digging up some connections between her and Ningguang for fun when I discovered that Ningguang probably has a natural synergy with a dragon because she herself is depicted as a phoenix.

Basically, in Chinese culture, dragon x phoenix is a popular imagery and they symbolise two halves of the same coin and are shown as emperor and empress. There's a lot more information about it in Chinese culture but for Genshin's context, I found it interesting cause Ningguang is considered the de facto leader of Liyue and has several empress themes on her design and writing. Her namecard is a phoenix but Chinese phoenixes are different from Western ones.

The dragon here is naturally Rex Lapis and I feel their connection is interesting cause ofc it isn't a romantic pairing but Ningguang essentially feels like the natural successor to him and he also recognizes her as a rare diamond in Liyue's history. So she really is like Liyue's empress and what's even better is that Wu Zetian, China's only female emperor, deliberately inverted the convention by elevating phoenix imagery above dragon imagery in her regalia — using the phoenix as a symbol of sovereign rule rather than consort status. This is the precedent that makes phoenix-coded female authority figures legible as rulers rather than merely as wives of rulers, which is directly relevant to how a character like Ningguang reads: the phoenix can mark supreme authority in its own right, not only the feminine half of a pair.

Sooooooo what I eventually thought of from this was that dragon!reader x Ningguang fic I wrote and hmmmmm maybe I can do more with it 😋

[In the Jade Chamber, Y/N examining a map spread across a table, he thinks it's just gonna be a regular afternoon... Until he gets interrupted by Ganyu, tapping his shoulder–

M!Reader : Hm?

[Y/N turns his head around]

M!Reader : Oh! Ganyu, need something?

Ganyu : Uh–Lady Ningguang requests Y/N's presence immediately!

...Y/N blinks

M!Reader : Like, immediately?

Ganyu : Immediately...

M!Reader : Did something happen?

Ganyu : Lady Ningguang described it as a financial emergency

[...Y/N blinks a few more times, surprised that Lady ningguang–ningguang–the Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing–gets into a financial emergency. Y/N immediately stands, a financial emergency involving Ningguang is usually really serious]

After a minute of walking, he arrives at her office–...But he only sees Ningguang calmly drinking a cup of tea.

M!Reader : ...

M!Reader : ...Ningguang?

Ningguang : Y/N

M!Reader : ...You said there was a financial emergency?

Ningguang : There is...

[Y/N looks at the walls of her office to see if there's any paperwork on the wall, but it's not a mess. He then stares at her table to see any report she finds odd, but there's nothing there too]

M!Reader : Wha–Where??

[Ningguang is still calmly drinking her tea]

Ningguang : I've been reviewing all of the paperwork handed by Baiwen, Baishi, and Baixi, it's all going completely well..

[That just makes Y/N standing there more confuse–

Ningguang : However...

M!Reader : However?

Ningguang : My favorite asset has been absent for a few days now because of a task...

Silence.

[Y/N starts blushing. He's irritated, but blushing, knowing where she's going with this. Y/N pinches the bridge of his nose, closes his eyes, and sighs]

M!Reader blushing : Did... Did you seriously summon me to your office because.. you missed me?

[Ningguang then just casually taps her lap]

Ningguang : How about you tell me up close, Hm?

Quite on topic for my last post, but I have no less than fourteen mosquito bites at the moment, including one on my FOREHEAD and three on the SAME thigh.

I imagine most of the Liyue Ladies laughing at their S/O in a similar situation, except Shenhe and that's only because she's physically unable to (as sad as that thought is).

"Oh, I'm not laughing at you — I'm laughing with you!" They say! With you? You aren't laughing! This isn't funny at all! You're itchy and there's red spots and bumps all over your body! That's the last time you'll join Beidou when she's heading to Sumeru in the middle of summer. If you'd stayed in the Jade Chamber, you wouldn't have gotten bit by anything other than Ningguang.

See at least Shenhe takes pity on you. Except rather than taking you to Bubu Pharmacy like Yelan does since, what else is she going to do about it, Shenhe makes some wild concoction taught by Cloud Retainer to apply to the itchy spots. She also uses her Cryo to soothe the irritated skin, and yknow what? Works like a charm and you get doted on. Perfect, tbh.

CW: Talk of weddings, marriage, Ningguang x Fem! Reader

I love daydreaming about my future wedding and looking at wedding inspo. I stumbled across a video of a guest attending their extremely rich Asian friend’s wedding and it made me think about how your wedding with Ningguang would be similar to that.

You and Ningguang would have your wedding at a five star hotel venue, buying all your guests their travel tickets (to and from) if they live outside of Liyue so they don’t have to worry about the cost. Ningguang also hires personal chauffeurs to take your guests around Liyue if they want to explore the city. You and Ningguang also refuse gifts and money from the guests, since you guys have plenty already. Instead, Ningguang gets each guest a complimentary gift basket, as well as red envelopes filled with Mora to thank them for coming to your wedding.

Ningguang doesn’t want to take, she wants to give since you two are wealthy enough already. It definitely shows in the wedding itself, as the venue is massive and elaborate, with you and Ningguang dressed to the nines while mazes of buffet tables line the walls. The whole thing screams that wedding scene from Crazy Rich Asians, but what do you expect when you marry a crazy rich Liyuen?

Honestly though, as much as I love to envision the lavish wedding aesthetic with Ningguang, what really matters is the love between you and her. Everyone is gathered there to witness and bless the love between the Tianquan and her wife. The Adepti, Rex Lapis, and notable figureheads from different regions all attend this grand spectacle just to get a glimpse of the two lucky brides. It’s a wedding that’ll go down in Teyvat history as potentially the biggest/most romantic wedding ceremony ever.

I actually have zero knowledge of the rules of chess at all, so if I ever try playing chess against anyone, instead of my usual strategy of deliberately trying to lose as to not go through the stress of figuring out how to win, I think I'll just. Devolve into nonsense.

Ningguang thinks she's playing a normal game of chess, but what she doesn't know is that because two of her pieces are in between two of mine, it's completely reasonable for me to flip both of her pieces upside down and consider them mine, fingers steepled and gaze deadpanned as if placing down a single green pawn in the center of the board is a completely legal move.

Anarchy chess is the only chess for me.

Ohhh she'd hate that. She'd hate that so much. Breaking her precious chess rules! No, how could you?! (Never mind the fact that she has her own version of chess, that she can change the rules of on a whim, and that I also think might be a combination of chess and monopoly somehow)

Anyway, I used to know how to play chess in middle school as my entire class was obsessed, but now.. uhh, yeah no, I forgot the rules and everything. Catch me playing with the pawns and making the knights give each other kissies.

[The jade chamber is brighter than usual tonight. Lights glow warmly, the place filled with gentle music in every corner. Liyue's most important merchants are chatting quietly while some merchant do a little dance]

[...Meanwhile–Y/N stands near the edge of the room, watching with a glass in his hand. As Ningguang's assistant, he at first refused her proposal to join this little... Event, because the room was just gonna be full with extremely important merchants, which... Ended up being the case–

[He ends up accepting to join anyway because Ningguang said she would love to have him here tonight]

M!Reader : Sighs, Why. Why. Why, they all look so dress up for this...

[Across the room, Ningguang speaks with a few merchants. Posture is elegant as always and is full of confidence]

"The tianquan looks stunning tonight"

[Someone whispers nearby along with someone else answering]

"She always does"

[Y/N tries not to stare. Unfortunately, Ningguang notices, her eyes meet his, making his heart immediately jump and tr quickly looks away]

[A few minutes later, the sound of heels approaches him]

Ningguang : Hm, why are you hiding in the corner?

[Y/N turns his head at her. Ningguang stands in front of him, looking elegant]

M!Reader : I'm not hiding

[Ningguang raises a brow]

Ningguang : You have been standing in the same spot for half an hour

M!Reader : ...You counted?

Ningguang : It's quite hard not to notice

M!Reader : ...Sighs, I'm not here to do any work, I don't know what to talk about with these people, and I certainly don't know how to dance...

Ningguang : ...On the last one, is that so?

[Y/N takes a look at the merchants that are dancing]

M!Reader : For merchants they look like professionals... If I step out there with you, I’d embarrass both of us and oh–let's not forget, I would be dancing with you, the tianquan...

[Without a word, Ningguang offers her hand to him]

Ningguang : Then allow me to correct that problem~

Y/N blink.

M!Reader : ...What?

Ningguang : If you cannot dance well, then I will guide you~

M!Reader : ...What–Ning, I'm just gonna say this, you do realise that rumours will start if–

Ningguang : How many did you see offer their hands to me for a little dance tonight?

M!Reader : Uh–about, five?

Ningguang : Did i take their hands for the dance?

M!Reader : Yes? I don't know what your–

Ningguang : I only did it because i know it'll keep them company, hearing them ramble about how teaming up with them with their businesses would be beneficial for the both of us. Did you see how the others look? They look unbothered, because they know they want a turn too. Chuckles, You and me, dancing? It'll look nothing but a business grab from you

[Y/N stays silent in complete shock from her observation]

M!Reader : But... Ning, I'll step on your feet...

Ningguang : Possibly

M!Reader : ...Wha—That doesn't bother you?

Ningguang : I built the jade chamber, I believe I can survive someone stepping on my feet a couple of times~

M!Reader : I–...Can you at least do me a favor and not take the dance too... Serious?

Ningguang : Chuckles, to me, that sounds like a challenge rather than a favor~

[Y/N can't help but laugh a little, her hand still waiting. Y/N takes it, she leads him gently to a nearby area to do a small dance]

[The music is still playing in the background. One hand rests in his waist while the other holds onto his shoulder]

Ningguang : On your left.

Ningguang : Move to the right.

Ningguang : Now forward.

Ningguang : And a little spin~

[Some of the merchants watch their passionate dancing, but quickly turn their heads back to talk with one another. Meanwhile, both of them keep dancing passionately with each other, making eye contact, holding each other gently, and smiling genuinely at each other]

Ningguang : And what did we learn?~

hiiiiiiii I'd like to request a romantic match up

I'm not really a picky girl, not in my opinion at least (^^; I'm easy to charm but I guess its hard to keep me charmed because of that. I have a tendency to be shy/cold at first but I can't shut up when I get comfortable sometimes (^.^) I get quite passionate when I tell a story or something that I enjoy. I have a tendency to either overthink or just not think things through at all which is something I'm trying to work on (^^; I'm a bit slow at times so I would really appreciate someone patient!

I'm honestly pretty vain, I like pretty things, especially fashion and jewelry -- it would be nice if I could be with someone that could appreciate those too! I love it when people have a strong sense of personal style.

I enjoy art a lot, film being one of my favorite art forms. Romcoms/chick flicks are my pass time genres but I enjoy other genres too.

I like to keep my hands busy when I want to relax so making bracelets and a bunch of other stuff is important to me.

I'm not a very outdoorsy type of person, as much as I like going to malls and having fun at amusement parks, I prefer staying inside with a warm bowl of soup. I like to sleep and play games in comfort of my room (^^;

I find it extremely attrative when people are passionate about the things they like (bonus points if its something niche), going as far as to notice any minute details a casual fan might miss. While the idea of someone being interested in only me sounds enticing at first, I think I'd end up hating it because they're just not stimulating me mentally. I like people that I can bounce ideas with ( ≧∀≦)ノ

I don't like people who are vague, indirectness makes me kinda mad because if you want something, I'd prefer it if you were to just tell me straight up (≧Д≦)!! I also need it because I have a tendency to come off as rude so (;´-｀)

Egoistic people are also a huge turn off for me. I also dislike people who's first solution when it comes to certain situations is to fight when sorting things out quietly is an option.

Ningguang isn't someone to be intimidated if someone is rather 'cold'. Some would say that she is rather cold, too. And ruthless, perhaps, but that’s just subjective. But being the way she is, Ningguang is also the kind of patient person you need to listen to your musings and thoughts; she may find it also very amusing. She has a lot of nonsense to listen to: stock market, thinking about new investments, some crime suspects here and there. Her plate is full, so you may the change of pace she needs as well.

Also personal style? Ningguang may be the most stylish person in Liyue, if you think of it. You just need to lie your eyes on her, and whether it's positive or negative, she can leave a lasting impression. She is very straightforward to in what she wants and needs. A woman doesn't become rich like her if they aren't, right? This seems her philosophy, at least. Egoistical... not sure about this one. She prefers being called ambitious, really.

You are also dating the Ningguang. She might spoil you with everything you ask for, and what she knows you might love. Jewelry? Clothing? Your favorite snacks? Just say it, and it will be yours. You don't need to worry about the costs either. All money spent on your smile is worth the investment.
